American Express (finally) added published welcome offers to a pair of rewards cards — and one of them is a card I use all the time.
(Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.)
Let’s start with one of my favorite cards: The no-annual-fee Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express. (See Rates and Fees.)
That went from no publicly published welcome offer to now offering 15,000 bonus American Express® Membership Rewards® points after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases on the card within three (3) months of being approved for card membership. (Terms apply.)
Its earning structure is pretty straightforward. You earn 2X Membership Rewards points for each eligible dollar spent on up to $50,000 each calendar year. After that, it’s 1X point per buck.
I originally got this card because I needed something with a generous 0% introductory APR to help finance a big purchase. (See Rates and Fees.) Plus, it’s great for purchases that are traditionally un-bonused (insurance bills, vendors, etc).
Something also appealing to me is that all of my Membership Rewards points pool together — and I can get even better value out of them if I choose to use the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express‘s fantastic rebate offer.
Again, I hold this card and really like it. (You can read more here.)
If cash back is more you’re thing, you’re in luck!
Earn 2% Cash Back!
The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is basically the same concept as the Blue Business Plus — except it offers cash back instead of points.
New cardholders can earn a $250 statement credit after spending $3,000 in eligible purchases on the card within three (3) months of being approved for card membership. Cash back earned is automatically credited to your statement. The previous welcome was — well, there wasn’t one.
The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card has a $0 annual fee and earns 2% cash back on all eligible purchases on up to $50,000 per calendar year, then 1%. (See Rates and Fees.)
It, too, offers a generous 0% introductory APR for 12 months, then 18.49% - 26.49% variable. (See Rates and Fees.)
Foreign Transaction Fees
Both Blue Business Cards do charge foreign transaction fees. This is typical of several no-annual-fee small business cards.
- Blue Business Plus: 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars (See Rates and Fees.)
- Blue Business Cash: 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars (See Rates and Fees.)
Make sure to use your card only on U.S. purchases. Make sure you’re always paying in U.S. dollars.
Final Approach
Two no-annual-fee American Express rewards cards now feature welcome promotions offering bonuses: the Blue Business Plus awards points and the Blue Business Cash offers cash back.
If you’re a big fan of Membership Rewards but don’t yet hold the Blue Business Plus, consider giving it a look. I have the card and use it a lot.
