There are some crazy great prices for Delta Air Lines roundtrips from the United States to Auckland, New Zealand, between this fall and Spring 2024.

Roundtrip Main Cabin fares start at 44,000 SkyMiles (plus applicable taxes and fees).

And the deals are even sweeter if you hold one of the Delta SkyMiles® American Express Cards entitling you to the Takeoff 15 feature.

Then we’re talking just 37,400 miles.

Below are examples from LAX — but check prices from your home airport. Even from Fargo, I saw great deals.

a screenshot of a flight schedule

a screenshot of a flight schedule

The flights are currently scheduled on the A350s Delta acquired from LATAM. There is no Premium Select option available.

a screen shot of a seat

Prices from JFK were slightly more expensive — by just a few thousand miles in Main Cabin.

Heck, with those prices, you could spring for an extra seat and have no one next to you.

Delta One-wise, I’m seeing prices at 650,000 SkyMiles roundtrip. That’s still kind of outrageous — but not in a good way. That knocks down to 552,500 with the Takeoff 15 discount.

Keep in mind that award travel earns MQM, MQS, and MQD. So, you could really score a decent chunk of MQM at amazing prices if you’re willing to sit in coach.

Delta launches the LAX to AKL route in late October. We’re seeing these extraordinary prices available from November 2023 through March 2024.

We hear the sale lasts through Friday, June 9.

If you’re having difficulty finding dates and/or want help booking the trip consider using point.me’s trip concierge team. They also have a “self-serve” option that’s sort of like Google Flights for points/awards trips — and you can get a free 24-hour trial! Visit this link, click “Sign up,” and on the next page, scroll down to “I have a code!” Enter “EYEOFTHEFLYER” and the trial is on us. (This way, they know we sent you — and that you’re a VIP! 🙂 )

Final Approach

Delta Air Lines SkyMiles offers a great Main Cabin sale to Auckland, New Zealand. Prices start at just 44,000 SkyMiles. But if you have a Delta SkyMiles Amex that’s higher than the Delta Blue Card, you enjoy even better savings with the Takeoff 15 feature.

See you in New Zealand?

Delta’s product in business-class and economy on this particular A350 configuration is HORRIBLE; even at a deeply discounted rate, be it cash or points. Having no premium economy and only two-by-two-by-two in business on flights of at least 13 hours is absurd and simply not competitive with the competition.

So you won’t be taking advantage of the sale, I take it.

Completely agree. Diamond here with almost 2MM and I’ve completely quit Delta (finally) and cancelled my Reserve card. Even have 3 GUCs that I’m not planning on using. I’ve started booking Swiss and TAP and absolutely love the experience. Day & night difference! Was stuck with Delta for 10+ years and their ridiculous devaluation not only of miles but of loyalty.
New plan, book the best option with whichever airlines, add upgrades / add-ons as needed.
I’m not gonna do the work for the airlines, they have to do the work to earn both my personal and business travel.

I am booked to fly down to New Zealand with Delta in January. It appears there are no flights loaded for April onward. How do I confirm that this is the case?

I’m willing to bet the route is a flop. Hence the sale. Delta wasn’t selling tickets. Nobody was willing to pay their high prices for business with an inferior product. And not having premium-economy hurt them too. Air New Zealand is 100 times better on this route. Or flying through Hawaii and breaking the trip up.

Main cabin award seats are nonrefundable. Does that mean the miles are forfeited upon cancellation beyond the initial 24-hour period?

@Jason – BASIC economy are non-refundable not main cabin.

Book the economy seats now and consistently watch online under my trips for decent upgrade prices after ticketing. You can always cancel and get a 100% refund if upgrade prices stay unreasonable.

I booked two seats for Thanksgiving week and was able to upgrade to D1 as well. It may not be the best product but you can’t beat the price to go see New Zealand and sit up front!

Hey Crhis, great offer and article.

Sadly, in just 12 hours, a 42.5k redemption from DTW to AKL has become more than double that.

Any idea if it will come back within the next week?

    Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words. No idea if the offer will come back. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people booked the trip ASAP either as an impulse buy or a “we’ll think about it” — and then cancel.

Yes, it was my mothers dream trip to go to NZ so a bit sad. Going to monitor the prices in case it changes.

FWIW, the only airport that I am seeing still has the offer is LAX

Where did you source the sale from?

I checked several airports across the country and saw the discounted prices.

If your schedule is flexible, play around with the dates. And/or check other airports to which can position to/from.

I just randomly picked Bismarck, ND, to AKL and saw some dates available for 50k…

Eric, I just booked LAX-AKL and there was still a lot of 44k r/t availability for Spring 2024. I booked 3/15-3/29 for example and it was 29k points + $361 cash. There is still availability.

Hey Anthony, thanks for the data point. I fear I’ve missed it as I cant see anything for the same dates and airports

For what it’s worth: play around with the dates. I see some prices at 184k and others at 44k.

Understand the comments about comfort but anytime you can get a plane ticket that would otherwise be thousands of dollars for 50,000 delta miles…

At least with LAX and MIA but nothing, everything was in the 100k. I wonder if doing it on the desktop matters vs the phone. I was doing it on the phone. Let me try that and I’ll report back.

Yeah, I think it might be over. I have tried so many dates & airports. I should have jumped on it yesterday ..when I saw a 44k from LAX still. Now I cannot find anything close to that price.
