If you need some points to save money on an upcoming hotel stay, a couple of hotel chains might be able to help you out.
IHG One Rewards: 100% Bonus!
IHG One Rewards is offering a 100% bonus on purchases of 11,000 points and higher.
You can purchase up to a base of 150,000 points (so, 300,000 total points) for $1,500. The offer expires at 11:59 PM Eastern Time on April 11.
Marriott Bonvoy: 40% Bonus
Mariott is also running a sale: receive a 40% bonus when purchasing at least 2,000 points. That’s a significantly lower threshold than IHG’s promotion.
Should You Buy Points?
I’m not a fan of buying points just to buy points. If you’re an IHG or Marriott enthusiast and know for sure you’ll use them, then this promotion might be a good opportunity. But if you hope or think you might use the points, then this may not be for you.
Do you have an aspirational trip to a specific property? Considering taking advantage of this sale.
Which Credit Card Should You Use?
These transactions are processed by points.com– not the actual hotel programs. So, these fall under the “all other eligible purchases earn X” category. This means you won’t receive hotel spending bonuses when paying with a hotel chain’s co-branded credit card.
Use whatever card best suits your need. For example, this could help you knock out a minimum spending requirement for a card’s welcome bonus or retention offer.
