If you’ve flirted with the idea of signing up for CLEAR — the biometric identification program available at select major airports and stadiums — right now is the time to enroll.
It appears discounts for Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus members will be reduced in the coming weeks. Several reports online indicate the changes take effect on February 1, 2023.
CLEAR Discounts
The standard rate for CLEAR is $189. But there are some easy ways to pay reduced prices.
According to this screenshot sent to a current Delta SkyMiles member enrolled in CLEAR, here’s what the rates will look like next month.
- General SkyMiles member (no elite status): $179, up from the current $119. (Oof. That’s a heck of a hike.)
- Delta SkyMiles American Express Card holders: $149, up from $109.
- Platinum, Gold, and Silver Medallion elite status holders: $149, up from $109
Diamond Medallions will still enjoy complimentary CLEAR membership.
So, now is the time to enroll and lock in a year of those lower membership prices. If you’re not yet a Delta SkyMiles member, keep in mind you can earn 1,000 bonus miles by enrolling during a special promotion right now.
CLEAR Statement Credits with Three American Express Cards
Cardholders of three select American Express products can earn up to $189 in annual statement credit when charging their CLEAR membership fees to one of these eligible cards:
- card_name
- card_name
- American Express® Green Card (Information on this card has been collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. The card is not available through Eye of the Flyer or our affiliates.)
Terms apply and enrollment is required.
If you need to enroll multiple people in CLEAR, you could take advantage of a couple of CLEAR discounts, charge them to your eligible Amex card(s) and save a significant amount of money.
Is CLEAR Worth It?
CLEAR’s value is, for the most part, subjective.
The service is becoming more popular, so it’s not quite the shortcut it used to be. There are times the TSA Pre√® lines are shorter than CLEAR queues.
More often than not, I find that CLEAR saves me at least a few minutes during trips. Plus, it’s nice not to fiddle with my photo ID and wallet. Those are two less important items to stash in the hustle and bustle of prepping hand luggage to be scanned. Instead, I can safely put them away before approaching the CLEAR line.
Final Approach
Some CLEAR discount prices are reportedly being slashed very soon. Now is the time to enroll at the current rates and save money this year.

I will be dropping down from DM to PM and my CLEAR membership renews in June. Is there any way to prepay? I logged in and did not see any options.
I don’t believe so.
Clear was great the first couple years but now the lines are almost as long as regular precheck. At IAD right now and clear was slower than regular precheck. And while I’m ranting the TSA app is worthless – app told me it was 0- 15 minutes wait time and it was over 30, which is a big difference at IAD when you have to spend another 10-15 minutes post security to get to your terminal.
