Championship Game-Bound College Football Fans Drank a Delta Flight Dry of Its Alcohol — in Two Hours

College football fans en route to see their team play for the national championship were very thirsty.

How thirsty?

They reportedly drank the plane dry of its alcoholic beverages on Saturday afternoon.

“About 2/3 thru our flight, the flight attendants announced that they discovered we were a party group,” a source onboard Delta Connection flight 4561 from Fargo (FAR) to Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) texted Eye of the Flyer. “We’d gone thru ALL the booze on board.”

The trip was a specially scheduled revenue flight operated by SkyWest. (Delta does not normally operate non-stops between Fargo and Dallas.) The person taking the flight said there were 54 passengers on the Embraer 175.

Most (if not all) of the passengers traveled to Dallas to cheer on the North Dakota State University Bison, who take on the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits in the FCS Championship Game. The contest takes place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco on Sunday at 2:00 PM Eastern / 11:00 AM Pacific.

Another passenger told us, “One guy had 12 vouchers, and another guy kicked in five for the ‘back’ of the plane.”

How’s that for Fargo Nice?

Now, the flight probably wasn’t catered for a full load of passengers. But SkyWest is the latest “How Much Do Bison Fans Party?” casualty. There are plenty of stories of venues running out of beer early into the evening — and a steakhouse once reportedtly ran out of steak. (Hey, we Bison fans know how to eat and drink well, OK?)

But I’m curious how much boozin’ is going on — given that both teams are from the Dakotas.

Update: Congratulations to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and their fans. Their team outmatched the Bison and were better coached. Hats off.

Haha! I read another article that they drank a local Frisco bar out of beer two nights in a row then went across the street to the liquor store and cleaned them out. Dakotans know how to throw back some beer.

Most NDSU folks can identify with the famous phrase spoken by Max Yasgur when introduced at Woodstock…”I’m a farmer “. Btw, we grow a lot of the products that are used to produce beer.

Silly me, I just assumed based on the headline and photo that it was the Georgia Dawgs traveling out to LA…

I was flying to/from Vegas for CES and “donated” a few of my beverage coupons that expire at the end of the month to the folks in the row right behind my seat in Comfort.

Hi! I had a passenger on my plane this evening who recognized me and told me about this article. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Katie, one of the flight attendants who worked this flight. A couple facts I would like to point out. I had 64 passengers, one minor, and all passengers were fans. This flight was specifically created JUST for the game. Normally, this flight doesn’t exist. The other flight attendant was Derek. We had 3 passengers in our first class donate vouchers. One passenger had 38, another 12, and the last had 6. Fun fact, all first class passengers and Delta Comfort+ can drink liquor for free. So, these vouchers were stacked from customers who have no use in spending them because they already drink free. This was one of the most memorable flights I’ve had. Now, the article will go on my wall of stories in my office. Thank you for writing this. <3
