The above is one of my old school mementos of my 25 years of service with Delta (just kidding – I got it on eBay). That classic widget is one many of us long time Delta flyers remember fondly and maybe even miss seeing on the side of the jets.
Today you will likely see this type of pin that happens to represent 30 years of service with the airline. But just what do all the stones and pins mean? Just how long has the employee you are interacting with been with Delta?
I reached out to the Delta flight museum located next to the corporate offices of the airline at the ATL Atlanta airport (see my review and visit here) and they were kind enough to share with me the following:
- 1 Year – Sterling Silver pin
- 5 Years – Gold pin
- 10 Years – Gold pin with one Ruby
- 15 Years – Gold pin with one Emerald
- 20 Years – Gold pin with one Diamond
- 25 Years – Gold pin with one Diamond and two Rubies
- 30 Years – Gold pin with one Diamond and two Emeralds
- 35 Years – Gold pin with one large Diamond and two small Diamonds
- 40 Years – Gold pin with two large Diamonds
- 45 Years – Gold pin with three large Diamonds
- 50 Years – Gold pin with four large Diamonds
- 55 Years – Gold pin with five large Diamonds
- 60 Years – Gold pin with six large Diamonds
So there you have it. If you see 2, 3, 4 or more large Diamonds on the pin in front of you, know you have someone with many decades of service with Delta Air Lines and most likely know way more about the airline than you do!
Neat, right? – René
