Last year in May, when I was fully vaccinated against COVID-19, one of the first things I did was re-up my annual Allianz travel insurance that covers all my travels either booked or have yet to book for one full year. That has now lapsed for a few months since I have found myself homebound all of this summer with a rather overwhelming home improvement series of projects to complete. Those are, finally, nearing their end and I have a number of trips planned to both end the year and start 2023.
Unfortunately all the shopping portals that used to offers sweet cash back offers to purchase a policy have gone away. However, I found during this quarter a way to at least get 5% off the yearly policy fee. Take a look:
Right now Discover it Card (a great no fee card I have had forever) has Paypal as one of the 5% quarterly bonus categories. Thus for the past few months I have selected my Discover it Card as the default payment option in Paypal.
Saving over $24 on my policy is a nice way to save a few bucks as I personally find the Discover it Card Paypal bonus category usually a hard one to max out when offered (compared to Grocery or Gas etc.).
Is it worth it to pay net $461 a year for travel insurance for both my wife and me? Most years I have had the policy I have had enough claims to cover either all or almost all of the yearly policy cost when things have happened like my cruise ship deciding to end at a port other than the one planned and having to pay over $200 for a taxi to the airport. Plus, having rental car insurance for cars up to $75,000 MSRP as well as emergency medical coverage is a great value to me. – René
