The long-awaited film Top Gun: Maverick is now in theatres. And part of the movie’s publicity blitz included a stop — and a couple of flights — at The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Danger Zone: James Corden’s Top Gun Day
During a skit that aired Monday night, Mr. Cruise meets Mr. Corden at Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR). But Mr. Cruise arrives in a style: a HondaJet Elite (registration N77VA). He’s a pilot who reportedly flew a number of military aircraft in the new movie.
He and Mr. Corden fly out to a desert location — and that’s when Maverick himself informs the late-night talk show host that the two will have a “Top Gun Day.”
Mr. Corden appears less than enthused as he’s strapped into a P-51 (N5IEW)with Mr. Cruise seated upfront. The duo take to the sky and engage another plane in a mock dogfight.
Upon landing, Mr. Cruise informs his Goose that their fun has just begun. They’ll crank things up a bit the next day– in an L-39C (N539RF). (Something tells me the entire skit was filmed in one day and pieced together with that Hollywood magic.)
There’s plenty of Top Gun references — including music and a certain sports scene.
The aerial photography is great, the acting is fun, and the skit overall is funny and entertaining.
