The above featured image is me on an AeroMexico 787-8 jet. I have a full review of the product here and during “normal” times it is fine and a decent product. But during COVID it is nice to be private and the AeroMexico 787-9 offers what may the best product to fly right now. Take a look.
First off I also have a full review of the 787-9 seat here so this post is more to focus on what the mini business class cabin offers you and the window seat on either side of the jet.
This seat is simply amazing in the level of privacy it offers. It is just you with a bulkhead in front of you and behind you.
Not just that but there is a curtain pulled behind you blocking off coach and even one in front of you blocking off the lavatory and galley area as well as the forward business class cabin.
Your nearest seat mate is across the aisle and with high seat “walls” you have a great level of privacy and space between each other.
On top of that you get 3 windows to yourself and as an avid AVGEEK it just adds to the feeling of massive space and luxury.
I had a number of runs booked in late January and dumped a bunch of them due to the spike in COVID numbers and the fact they were on 737 aircraft with 2-2 seat configuration. But my MAD or Madrid run I kept due to the fact that I could self isolate as much as possible along the way and with the above seat even sleep really well on the 10 hour flight (each way) with no one close to me at all. This plus pulling in well over $12,000 in Delta Medallion MQD credit for only a thousand dollars net out of pocket. Fantastic!
Now the gripe I have to toss in was the food. While the appetizer was nice and using real glass again (compared to Delta right now) is much appreciated….
The beef dish was simply disgusting. I encourage you (if you can keep your breakfast down) to zoom in and look at this thing. If you think the photo is bad the taste was 100x worse. I took a bite and pushed it away. Simply gross AeroMexico. What were you thinking?
At least there was a tiny bit of ice cream and a wafer thin cookie to make up for the main course before.
All my flights during COVID have been either in first class or business class. I can not dream of sitting middle seat back in coach right now and it is a sad fact that paying for space in cash or points is, IMO, a wise choice and even picking the “best” seat matters. 10A on this 787-9 is one I would go for every time COVID or not! – René

Thank you for the great review, Rene: this is very helpful! Ditto for the tip on what to avoid for the menu selection–was that their short ribs or was it a different beef dish?
@Bernard – Think it was short rib. There was no other beef choice. Stick with the chicken or fish. You can pre-order on AeroMexico.com fyi by pulling up your reservation up to 2 days before flight.
I agree. The beef on that flight (or what they claimed was beef) was awful. I made the mistake of ordering it as well.
I traveled from JFK to Madrid via AeroMexico and 100% agree and I’d love to make that trip again. Is there any way to book on AeroMexico? I can’t seem to do it on their website!
@Margo – There seems to be an ongoing (current) issue booking AeroMexico from USA to MAD (via MEX) right now. We hope it goes away soon.
yes!
@Rene @Margo: Amen! The situation is crazy. It is further complicated. Some of us have received Aero Mexico coupon credits for cancelled flights–but they expire in early May 2022. So the impossible-to-book situation on the AM website risks nullifying the original credit that was issued under their flexible booking guarantee.
The beef is better than the one me and Nina had on China Eastern..It had a green glow to it.. scary
