Welp, it’s about time to start planning on 2023 Delta Medallion status! Heck, with Delta rolling over everyone’s MQM to next year, we can think about padding our balances for 2024! (After meeting the required MQD threshold or Delta Amex MQD spend, of course).

With that in mind, let’s take a look at this Delta mileage-status run from New York’s JFK airport to San Diego (SAN) next month.

Delta says it’ll earn 5,211 MQM and $162 MQD. It currently costs $220.40, so that comes out to about 4.2 CPMQM.

The trip leaves JFK at 7:59 AM on Tuesday, January 18. It connects in Minneapolis and gets you to San Diego just after lunchtime. You have a nine-hour layover. That’s plenty of time to hit the Gaslamp Quarter for a good meal or two, take a tour of the beautiful Petco Park stadium, and/or catch a sunset at one of the area’s beaches. Or just sit in the Delta Sky Club at SAN.

The return departs at 10:25 PM — and it’s on a 767-400. So Medallion members might score an upgrade to the lie-flat seats up front. Platinum and Diamond Medallions can upgrade into Comfort+ right after booking — and those seats are actually the Premium Select kind, which are like domestic first class.

Finally, your ATL to JFK hop gets you back to New York at about 9:30 AM on Wednesday.

What About MQD Runs? Or Something Else?

If this mileage run doesn’t work for you or you need something else (another alliance, departure date, an MQD run, etc.), then get in touch with the mileage run department at Point.Me (formerly known as Juicy Miles). POINT.ME features an entire staff whose sole purpose is creating mileage runs for people. (What an awesome job, right?!) They’ve helped our readers for years and we highly recommend the Point.Me crew.

Hit the JFK Am Ex Centurion Lounge before the run. Get yourself an espresso martini to celebrate!

Well happy New Year early and Merry Christmas late!
Thank you, chris for the first run of the year !
I have a run to Bogota on Am over those dates so, I’ll earn more on Am…. Otherwise I would have totally booked it ! It’s a great run!! Has there been any change in the availability to book Am to Europe to date? I really need MQDs for 2023 status 🙁 and some MQMs although I did earn tush in seat diamond applying for 2023! So we’ll see where that gets me.
Is the San Diego date the only on available ?
Happy and safe everything to you and your darling family

Thanks for the kind note, Nina. I think there are a few other dates available in February and March for about the same price, maybe a few bucks higher (and when I say “a few bucks” I mean “a few bucks.” Nothing too dramatic, at least yet.)

Nothing yet on AM to Europe. So annoying. All the best to you and your family!

Perfect run but I’ll be knee deep in the hoopla with Orlando. – Tijuana runs. Those who do a JFK – SAN run can hit Rubios in San Diego for Taco Tuesday before heading back.

I didn’t see anything for the same price. More like in the $300 range.
