My wife and I both have Chase IHG One Rewards Select cards but hardly ever use them. We hold them, primarily, for two perks that are included for the $49 per year annual fee, that is, IHG Platinum status (does not mean much but helps) as well as an annual free night cert for stays up to 40,000 points per night (that has recently become worth less than it was before with IHG award charts now gone).
When we burn our free night certs they tend to be at Kimpton hotels. My good friend and fellow blogger Marshall Jackson did a guest post a few years back and is a big fan of the “Kimpton Karma” (what their old loyalty program was before folding into IHG) and even today I get the vibe that you feel when you are at a Kimpton brand.
Sweatpants, we’re sorry, but it’s over. It’s not you, it’s us. As a token of our time together, we named our beloved Social Password just for you. And it’s back at all Kimpton hotels, starting today. Just say “No More Sweatpants” at check-in for a welcome surprise. 📷 @lisadieder pic.twitter.com/hKbAFbbuqu

One thing I like about Kimpton is their “Secret Social Password” that gets you some small treat if you say it at check-in. It can mean something like free stuff from the minibar to some kind of room upgrade to dollars off or a free breakfast and so on. The current one for this summer (good through September 6, 2021) is “No More Sweatpants“. For all of us on COVID19 lockdown, this is a simple and funny one to call to mind!
My wife and I are just back from a few days soaking up some sun and staying at the Kimpton Surfcomber in South Beach Miami (review up soon). During my stay there was no official live password promo running but I did mentioned the old one and the check-in folks agreed it was sad there was no official one right now but they decided to give me a free “wine hour” bottle of wine to take to my room for trying!
Bottom line is always try mentioning the secret social password promo because you just never know what tiny little perk you may end up with. – René
