Using Regional Upgrade Certificates (RUC) or Global Upgrade Certificates (GUC) on your Delta Air Lines flights this year? You might have to wait a while to receive MQM, MQD, MQS, and SkyMiles.
René and his wife, Lisa, used upgrade certificates during a Delta trip late last month. But come yesterday (June 1), no elite status activity posted to his account (Delta promised they would all credit by that date at the latest).
This was an award booking. But that shouldn’t matter because Delta is awarding elite status points for award travel during 2021. Plus, I saw another SkyMiles members’ activity for an award trip — and he received everything due.
But then:
Uh-oh.
René called the Diamond Medallion and spoke with a rep. She told him he didn’t receive any MQM, MQS, or MQD because he booked an award ticket that did not qualify for ANY points.
Sigh.
That’s right. This Diamond Medallion rep didn’t know about a major change Delta announced two months ago.
René explained to her the whole “Delta Status Accelerator” situation. Then she put him on hold.
A supervisor (who did know what’s up) eventually hopped on the line. He explained there is a known issue when reservations have RUC or GUC applied to them. Delta reps must manually re-queue/resubmit them for credit.
So if you don’t receive your MQM, MQD, etc., then call your Medallion line (or the general SkyMiles number, if you haven’t yet joined the elite ranks). Hopefully, the rep handling your call will know about the Delta Status Accelerator promotion and resubmit your ticket for correct credit.
Or, better yet, maybe the bug will soon be fixed.

It’s not just certificates. I was upgraded to first class on every segment of a five-segment itinerary I flew over the weekend (booked with SkyMiles) and got the same message.
Thanks for the info. I have a mileage run next week using my miles and I am using a RUC for my return. I will make sure to monitor it. So far, keeping my fingers crossed, I don’t have any issues getting credit for MQM & MQD with a straight award ticket.
Good luck — and have a great time!
