Hotels.com is giving ten lucky winners a $2,741 prize “to go big on future travel in 2021!” The promotion is dubbed “The 2020 Tax Write-Off.” (Though wouldn’t a monetary prize be better termed a “tax rebate”? Accountants and other tax professionals: please enlighten us in the Comments section below.)
The company’s cutesy deduction form gives contestants a number of “expenses” to itemize: “number of hours spent dreaming of vacay,” “miles traveled from couch to fridge,” and “hours spent scrolling travel (Instagrams)” are some of the options. (Hey, it’s kind of creative!)
Puerto Rico Fining Tourists for Mask Violations
Puerto Rico is probably not the place for anti-maskers.
The US territory mandates that masks must be worn at all times — even outside. Police are cracking down on bad behavior and fining the maskless folks $100 a pop.
