Delta Air Lines announced this morning that middle seats will remain unavailable on its flights until at least April 30, 2021.
In a release published on its website, Delta said:
The airline has consistently listened to its customers and prioritized their preferences by offering more space through seat blocking and reducing the overall number of people on board each flight since April 2020.
“We want our customers to have complete confidence when traveling with Delta, and they continue to tell us that more space provides more peace of mind,” said Bill Lentsch, Chief Customer Experience Officer. “We’ll continue to reassess seat blocking in relation to case transmission and vaccination rates, while bringing back products and services in ways that instill trust in the health and safety of everyone on board – that will always be Delta’s priority.”
This appears to be an extension of the rules Delta announced in late August:
- For customers in parties of 1-2: Middle seats will be blocked.
- For customers in parties of 3 or more: Middle seats will appear as available for booking, to allow families and travel companions to select seats together.
- Limit the total number of customers on board all aircraft – with or without middle seats.
- Block adjacent seats in First Class.
- Block one aisle of seats on aircraft without middle seats.
However, Delta One seats on widebody aircraft are not subject to the airline’s blocked-seat policy.

If this blocking of middle seats isn’t the ultimate in completely useless virtue-signaling, I don’t know what would be. A crowd of people enclosed in a tube, but as long as you are 2 feet away while sitting you’ll be fine as long as you’re wearing a mask. And only remove it for brief periods of time for eating. Closer than 6 feet on earth and we’re all dead, but a couple of feet separation in an enclosed tube for hours and you’ll be fine. And if masks actually stopped a virus, why are we worried about a few more inches of separation anyway? Do masks work or do they not? (I think we all know the answer to that question.) The fact that so many people are completely willing to go along with this absurd farce of “science” is so depressing.
