It has been a few years now since myself, and a number of other AVgeeks, took their last ride on a Delta 747 that was once painted in Northwest colors (before Delta absorbed NWA many years ago). We did not fly any of the official “last” 747 flights and they were not really last flights because the jet did fly a number of times with passengers after these “send off” flights. No, we made our own memories to remember this proud aircraft and it truly was a blast.
If you are not someone who just loves to fly and everything about aviation, this post may be hard to understand. There is an amazing video about the 747 you can see on CBS All Access. For us geeks, you will love the video and for everyone else, you will maybe get a better understanding of how amazing this bird really is/was.
But Delta has ended their relationship with the 747 forever. They have flown them all to the Arizona desert and have sold them off to the scrappers and now they are being sold piece by piece. You can look at the entire list of parts for sale here but I have picked out a few gems like:
If you were on the last / not-last official Delta good-bye flight you may want to pay a massive $15,000 to have the side of the 747 as wall art if you have a really really big wall? Or,
During my million miler flight, I had the once in a lifetime chance to stick myself partially out of the 747 escape hatch up top in Japan. What a moment in time I will never ever forget. Am I motivated to buy the hatch itself… well.. maybe… 😉
I can tell you one thing I am really NOT interested in acquiring is a row of “Comfort Plus” seats – even 4 of them in one lot.
I have never wanted aircraft bits for my office or man cave (I don’t have one) but could see something for my exercise room as a fun item to bring back memories.

If I were to buy the Comfort Plus seats, I wonder if they’d let me use a RUC to confirm an upgrade for a Delta One seat or if I’d be waitlisted. On second thought they’d probably require a GUC…. 😉
