The legacy Hyatt Credit Card has entered its final months.
Chase and Hyatt are converting the OG Hyatt card to the World of Hyatt Credit Card on January 11, 2021. Replacement cards will be shipped later in the month.
How are the Hyatt Credit Card and World of Hyatt Credit Card Different?
Those of us who hold the original Hyatt Credit Card can expect these changes:

· 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on the card for:
o Flights purchased directly from the airline o Car rentals · 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on the card everywhere else |
· 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on the card for:

Worth noting: the benefit will be changing to calendar year from the anniversary year starting January 2022 based on cardmember feedback. |
· Automatic Discoverist status in World of Hyatt
|
· Automatic Discoverist status in World of Hyatt and ability to accelerate to higher elite status with 5 Tier-Qualifying Night credits within eight weeks of migrating to the World of Hyatt Card and 5 more every year thereafter
· 2 additional Tier-Qualifying Night credits for every $5,000 in spend. |
Annual Fee Increase
The World of Hyatt Credit Card carries a $95 annual fee — twenty bucks higher than the original’s $75.
In a statement, Chase said, “Migrated cardmembers will enjoy the expanded benefits without being charged the new fee until August 2021 (so any cardmember that has an anniversary before August will continue paying $75 and those after will start paying the $95 annual fee).”
Final Approach
I rarely put any spend on my Hyatt Credit Card — but some recent bonuses inspired me to break it out again. I keep the card for the anniversary night benefit. I’m not crazy about paying $20 more for the annual fee — but should still easily get at least that much back in free night value.
Because I’m again over 5/24, I don’t have a chance to take advantage of the current welcome bonus and score more World of Hyatt points.
But the World of Hyatt Credit Card is solid product and I look forward to kicking its tires.

Hello – if I am below the 5/24 rule and don’t have any immediate plans to stay at a Hyatt, would you recommend canceling the old Hyatt card and then reapplying for the new one instead of simply waiting for the conversion? Thank you!
Hi, Tom. The World of Hyatt Credit Card’s offer terms state, “The product” — welcome bonus — “is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.” So if you think you can hit the minimum spend down the road, then go for it. But before you cancel your card, transfer a bunch of your credit line to another Chase card.
