Surprise of the Month: My OG Hyatt Credit Card is Suddenly Worth Using Again!

My original Hyatt Credit Card hardly ever gets used outside of the occasional Hyatt stay or Chase Offer.

But the darn thing is suddenly worth using for some everyday spend and great promotions.

Color me shocked, to be honest.

The card — the precursor to the current World of Hyatt Credit Card from Chase — has always stayed in my arsenal, simply because it gives me a free night each year at certain Hyatt properties.

A kingsize bed is seen inside an executive king bedroom at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare Chicago airport hotel in Rosemont, Illinois.

But the past few weeks — especially this week — have made the legacy card find its way back into my everyday wallet.

If you, too, hold the classic Hyatt Credit Card, here are some promotions and offers to keep in mind.

5X on Amazon Purchases!

A new promotion across a number of co-branded Chase cards (including the OG Hyatt card) gives targeted cardholders some nice point bonuses on everyday spend — including 5X on Amazon purchases! I’ll definitely take advantage of this promotion!

$75 Statement Credit Offer

Hyatt announced a promotion giving both legacy Hyatt Credit Card and World of Hyatt Credit Card members a $75 statement credit when spending at least $250 at Destination Hotels and Resorts, Joie de Vivre, and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt hotels in the U.S. (Registration required.)

10% Statement Credit Offer

There’s a Chase Offer I added that gives me 10% back (up to $25) on select Hyatt purchases through November 22. A $100 minimum spend is required.

Free Night with $4,000 in Spending

Through December 31, cardholders receive a free Category 1-4 night when they spend $4,000 in purchases. (Registration required.)

I doubt I’ll put four grand on my Hyatt Credit Card in the next eight weeks. But stranger things have happened.

Final Approach

I’ll likely keep my old Hyatt Credit Card for a long time. Like I said, the free room benefit alone is worth the annual fee. But I appreciate Chase giving cardholders some reasons to dust off the darn thing — and earn some World of Hyatt points.
