Disclaimer: This flight was at the very end of December 2019 as part of my, and my “BRU boys”, Delta elite mileage run to keep my Diamond status with Delta for 2020.

With that, on to the review:

a group of people sitting at tables in a room

We had some time to kill as our flight from Brussels arrived a little early so it was off to the JFK Delta Sky Club (review here). They have been doing some major remodeling and construction was still ongoing during our visit.

a room with red chairs and a sign

Gone now was the Asanda Spa experiment. I tried it once just to review it and clearly burning your Skymiles for a massage was an unpopular choice (and wisely so may I add). This club can get crowded so more seats is a good thing. On to our flight.

a screen in an airplane

The type of aircraft we were on was the exact same as the one over from Brussels so no need to show you more seat shots other than this one as this old aircraft was even in a sadder state than the one we had just been on. Even before COVID Delta was greatly neglecting these old birds and I am shocked they put this in on such a competitive route.

a bottle of water and two glasses of juice on a table

The idea of this “premium” route is to give it a similar feel to the international flights and having just come off one it was a perfect time to compare. Pre-flight beverage was similar. Then what about the meal?

a screenshot of a flight registration

I had, at the same time as selecting my meal on the previous flight, chosen the herb grilled chicken salad as my meal choice.

a book with a picture of food

a menu with a picture of different types of food

The menus have a similar feel to them as the international ones but with many less wine choices.

a group of bottles on a table

In fact the wine choices were just the standard domestic first class but dressed up with cart service at your seat vs. the flight attendant walking back and forth to the galley.

a plate of nuts and a glass of liquid next to a napkin

So if you are keeping score so far, including the drink and nut service, we are similar in feel to an international Delta One flight. But here is where it ends.

a plate of salad and two cups of coffee

The appetizer course is not presented on its own but as a one tray appetizer, soup and meal service (oh and my soup was in a coffee cup – really, Delta). The salad was fine but uninspiring.

a tray of food on a tray

My flight partner chose the chicken “meat loaf” and I was happy that I did not select this option.

a bowl of food with a spoon

Once again desert had a hint of international service but not quite the same.

a plate of cookies and a drink

Lastly, shortly before landing (I mean just before) a hot cookie was presented. It was nice and I would have enjoyed not having to rush to eat it before landing.

Did my post inspire you to fly Delta One service to or from New York or Los Angeles?

No?

Me either.

I really hope, once COVID is truly over and gone, Delta will do a better job competing on this premium route. René
