Delta Air Lines announced today it’s blocking the sales and assignments of certain aisle and window seats. They’re also capping available first class seating capacity to 50%; Delta Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin are knocked down to 60%.
Remember that middle seats were blocked a couple of weeks ago.
The change affects aircraft with seating configurations of:
- 1×2 (i.e. first class on an ERJ-175)
- 2×2 (i.e. Main Cabin and Comfort+ on, well, any CRJ)
- 2×3 (i.e. Main Cabin and Comfort+ on a 717)
Main line and Delta Connection fleet are affected.
This policy is effective through June 30. Delta says this “is the most recent addition to a number of health and safety measures we’ve taken to promote a safe flying experience for customers and employees.”

I hope “some” doesn’t include cockpit windows!
Social distancing must be challenging up there!
It’s a first world problem…but man I miss it! I’m willing to do all the right things…and won’t rush it…but can’t wait to get back to traveling.
One of the other changes is boarding from the back to the front. It’s amazing that it took a pandemic to initiate this boarding process that I’ve been suggesting for years. It makes so much more sense. Now we will get to see if it makes boarding quicker, as I suspect it will.
Barry (and everyone else),
As big an issue (not today, with sub-90% loads) will be whether the people boarding first will dump their carryon’s “up front” rather than above their own seat(s). With current light loads, not such a big deal. Down the road once “normalcy” has returned, could be cause for melee after melee!
Delta also has stopped automatic upgrades for DM to FC and C+. I have a ATL-JFK flight in August. I’m DM & there is seat available in C+ but no upgrade. I can purchase an upgrade to C+ however for $69..00. I know, C+ is not really much and I will never pay for it, but SELLING an upgrade for 69 bucks but not allowing an automatic UG for DM just doesn’t seem right. Oh, yes, I called the Diamond rep & nope, can not move you to C+. Anyone else experience this?
I know it’s frustrating and takes some of the fun out of being Diamond but since everyone is in the same boat, aren’t your chances the same even if it’s done at the gate?
Well not if Delta sells them all to non DM for $69.00 before I get to the gate!
This is true. I can’t see myself paying that though, especially if I am hoping to get a FC upgrade.
