With hours remaining in 2019, I wanted to address a few frequently asked questions we get this time of year (especially today!).
In addition to the quick reminders I posted a few days ago, here are a couple of more that are Delta specific.
When Will My MQM, MQD, MQS, and Amex Spend Counter “Reset”?
Around midnight Eastern time (but sometimes much earlier) on December 31, Delta SkyMiles status counters (MQM, MQS, and MQD) and your Delta Amex spend totals on the Fly Delta app and Delta.com reset to all zeroes.
It might be a bit jarring seeing your big, robust numbers from the previous year suddenly disappear.
But where some people get really nervous — especially new Medallion members — is when excess MQM are gone, somewhere in the ether. These extra MQM roll over to the next year. Say, for example, you’re a Gold Medallion for the 2020 SkyMiles year. As of today, you have 73,000 MQM — just 2,000 short of Platinum. Those 23,000 “extra” MQM will roll over to next year — essentially giving you a nice headstart. (This is a wonderful SkyMiles program perk.)
Here’s the important part: at some point today (maybe right now if you don’t have a Delta flight taking off today), take a screenshot of your SkyMiles home page that lists your MQM totals. This way, you have a record of everything just in case something goes wonky or you need to refer back to your 2019 totals. Another option is to download a PDF from Delta.com of all your activity for the year as you see above (log in first then here is the link to your activity).
I screenshot my loyalty program totals each December 31, just for safety’s sake.
When Do Delta rollover MQM Post?
We’ll tackle that tomorrow morning!
Do MQD and MQS Roll Over?
Nope. Sorry. If you need MQD, keep an eye on our mileage run page. We post partner runs from time to time.
I Have a Flight Departing Today. Will it Credit to This Year’s or Next Year’s Totals?
Flights scheduled to depart before midnight local time credit to that day. So if your flight is scheduled to depart tonight at 11:59 PM, it counts for 2019 toward 2020 status. If you have a flight at 12:00 AM tonight/tomorrow morning, it counts toward your 2020 numbers for 2021 status.
I’m a Platinum or Diamond Medallion. Do I Need to Select My Choice Benefits Today?
As René discussed the other day, you have until January 31, 2020, to pick your 2019 benefit(s) and waiting can be wise. But it is OK to select them now if you want to. Some things you should NOT pick but we will cover that in another post soon.
Biggest Reminder
Have fun tonight, be safe, (call an Uber or Lyft if you or someone you know needs a ride), screenshot your loyalty program numbers, and get excited for 2020!

Question 1: What happens if you have (this is hypothetical) you have way over the Diamond mils amount but don’t make the spend OR the 250K waiver? Does everything past Platinum roll over?
Question 2: If you are a million miler and are automatically silver do you still need 50K miles to be gold? or do you get a foundational start at silver to start accruing – thus only need 25K miles?
Thanks!
@Jane – Q1 Answer. See THIS post linked above but update totals for the current MQD spend numbers (need to update the post and will soon).
Q2 Answer. MM stats, like gifted status, has NO impact on miles needed for earned status. You must EARN (MQM, MQD etc) your status like anyone else if you want higher than MM or gifted status.
Thanks for another year of helpful and money saving tips. Happy New Year, I hope it is a safe, interesting, exciting and prosperous one for all.

2019 Rollover MQMs Update
2019 Rollover Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) will begin posting on January 6, 2020. Please allow 1-2 weeks for Rollover MQMs to post…..
@Rene-
I just spent $60K on the Delta Reserve card during the first week of January. The statement closed on 01/07/20. All spend was from 01/01/20. The 60,000 miles posted from the spend, however neither of the 15,000 bonus miles have posted. Usually they post almost the same day as the spend miles. I have not checked to see if the MQM’s are available yet.
Any thoughts on why the delay?
@Sam: We say if the miles haven’t posted in a week, then call Delta. Please let us know what happens!
