Multiple news outlets are reporting that a Delta Air Lines pilot arrested a passenger who tried breaking into the cockpit of flight DL 579 this morning.
UPDATED, 2:28 PM EDT: Reuters reports that some passengers chipped in to help detain the person claiming to be God. “Delta also credited passengers with helping restrain the man who ‘became unruly on board.'”
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Citizen says a police report cites Captain Kevin Mitchell as the arresting (flight) officer.
UPDATED, 1:02 PM EDT: The flight (now minus the alleged criminal) has landed at JFK and is taxiing to gate B9, according to Delta.
ORIGINAL POST: The flight, scheduled from San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) to New York’s JFK airport, returned shortly after takeoff.
The Associated Press reports (via Bloomberg) that 30-year-old Carlos Ramirez Rodriguez allegedly “became disruptive and tried to enter the cockpit.”
He also had some rather interesting things to say.
“I am God. Tomorrow San Juan is going to disappear. I came to save the world, and I’m going to end terrorism,” he yelled, according to police. The irony, of course, is that this person reputedly wanted to end terrorism yet make an entire city disappear.
