Today is a very special day for me as it is the 5 year “blogiversary” of RenésPoints blog. Can you believe that I have been sharing Delta and other travel bits every day for that long now? I am humbled and truly in awe and as I look back over the past 5 years there are some interesting insider highlights that I thought I would share with you.
Day one of the blog was thrilling and terrifying for someone like me with dyslexia. I have to admit to feeling a gripping fear over those first few days that I would ever post anything slightly wrong or maybe inverting some number – it did keep me up some nights! Oh that and being the official launch site for Skymall when they “had” to unload millions of SkyMiles by the end of the year!
December, my first full month of blogging, was truly a whirlwind and I was tickled that so many came to visit a brand new travel blog. It felt like being shot out of a cannon!
I was also somewhat concerned this past year over my blog re-branding but I need not have worried one bit as RenésPoints readership has continued to keep climbing since then and strongly so this past year with October 2016 being my biggest month ever in reader visits.
And that number above just blows my mind that nearly 7.5 millions views have landed since my first day of posting 5 years ago.
I was also hoping that I could break 10,000 followers on Twitter but I ended up just a tiny bit short. It’s OK – give it a few more weeks and that milestone will be met as well.
That is a lot of numbers. The reality behind all these numbers is what makes me so happy. Over the years I have loved helping so many readers with all things Delta. From earning elite status to finding the lowest priced awards with their SkyMiles. Few things make my day more than a reader sending me a quick note of thanks because something worked better from the advice here on the blog.
I also have really enjoyed holding Delta to account for all the positive, and negative, changes to the award and elite program. Their PR department does the best they can to sugarcoat nasty “enhancements” and often do not go far enough when it comes to real improvements of how we can best take advantage of them all. That is fun and I love maxing out every program perk we can.
Looking forward I have no idea what’s next. Despite SkyMiles collection being dead to me there can still be great values if you cherry pick award sales and the like and being able to instantly transfer Membership Rewards to Delta keeps me in the game. That and the fact that the elite program still is one of the best if not the best for my travels in the USA. Let’s hope during the next 5 years Delta continues their slow but steady program improvements.
