Just to stem the flood of questions for those who missed the post last month where I talked about rollover MQMs I will repeat what I said:
“Q4) When will my rollover miles post now that the new Medallion year starts on 1FEB each year? Will it be faster?
A4) My guess is it will be like last year. By the 15th for most of us. All will have rollover done before 1FEB16 rolls around. Delta has done a good job with this over the past few years. PS don’t forget the Medallion year starts February 1st this year not March 1st like in the past.”
So just sit tight folks. The rollover will happen sometime before the end of this month. Now you may be shocked to see your numbers all reset to ZERO this AM as it seems Delta reps may have been giving out some bad advice last year:
Or the above reader may have just been confused. Delta does make it rather confusing with the change this year of the medallion year from the normal 1MARCH to 1FEB for 2016. Just know we have until 23:59 on 31DEC16 to earn MQMs for this year. Unless…
You happen to fall into the super procrastinator group who did in fact end last year, 2015, short of MQMs. If that is you, and you have an unlimited supply of money to burn at BAT CRAZY prices – then I have great news for you. Delta has disgustingly revoltingly nauseatingly kindly EXTENDED the chance for you to buy MQMs until 31JAN16. Yippee? This year please promise to take an Elite Mileage “Fun Run”!
I also warned you over and over in November and December about getting your SkyBonus points out before the stroke of midnight last night. Well it seems, either intentionally or unintentionally, the SkyBonus folks gunked up the IT works at some point yesterday and, while you could log in and see your points, you could not spend them. I would email them and ask for your redemption you wanted. They may say go pound sand, your time is up but that would not shock me from this team at Delta. I am beyond happy to be out of SkyBonus!
Then we have one bright spot that just shocked me to the core. Read this article about a great kindness from a Delta regional pilot. He returned to the gate and opened the door to let folks on. Delta PR folks say they were pleased with the move but he could have gotten in SUCH big trouble and may still have, we just don’t know about it. Delta cares about on-time and $$$. I think a kind act like this is WAY down the list of priorities. Either way I stand behind Delta pilots 100% be they regional Sky Drivers or mainline folks. Nothing but respect! – René

In my experience, Delta doesn’t care much about regional on-time performance though. Those flights aren’t counted when DL says they haven’t cancelled a flight in xxx days. Luckily, in the case you mentioned the flight actually got in on time!
As much as I love Delta’s on-time record (even with the padding taken into account), I hate the focus put on that over customers. I agree with you wholeheartedly that the pilots were in the right, here. Here’s hoping they aren’t punished for doing the right thing!
While I applaud the pilot’s action and compassion, I too suspect there is trouble behind the scenes given all the rules and costs of maintaining a gate. Doing the right thing isn’t always so easy. 🙁
Renee thanks for the info. I was not aware of this per the rollover MQMs.
Rene,
I have a question in regard to the gifting of a medallion status.
My friend will soon be Platnium and wants to gift me Silver Status. Here’s the question.
I already currently have…
29,000+ MQMs
$2,361 in MQDs ($639 short)…which I will make up before the end of the year.. But if he gifts me silver status, does that essentially mean I’m $639 away from Gold status since I now have silver because of his gift? Is it as if he’s giving me 25,000 MQMs and $3,000MQDs?
Or…what does that whole thing look like?
Just discovered your site. Very informative! Thanks!!
@Josiah – 911, ALERT NOOOOOOOO! Don’t do it. All they are doing is gift status NOT MQMs so all your MQMs become worthless unless you make GOLD at 50,000 with the spend. Better choice is to be MQD exempt via $25,000 Delta AMEX spend. See this post: http://renespoints.boardingarea.com/2016/01/01/2016-how-to-earn-your-delta-mqd-exempt-waiver-to-avoid-mqd-spend-requirement-for-elite-medallion-status/
