Final thoughts, costs and Virgin vs. DeltaONE to Europe – Part 14
I was not overly impressed with the T3 Escape lounge. The T2 Escape lounge is the one Delta and Virgin Upper Class guests are directed to when flying back to the USA rather than the Virgin Vacations lounge just around the corner. I have no idea what that lounge is like, but I can promise you it had to be better than this one. Let me first off take you on the grand tour:
Above is the entrance looking left
The food and drink choices
The work area right of entrance
And the “rest” of the lounge. Folks that is it. No showers or anything (you go outside the lounge to use the lavatory). It is just a one room box with a few dividers. To call this underwhelming would be kind. I can see, if a 747 full complement of Upper Class passengers prior to boarding were here, this lounge would become packed to standing room only. What a disappointment.
There were some additional choices from the tiny kitchen should we have wanted it but we did not have that much time before boarding and actually went to the gate early (just as well to leave).
There was a Priority Pass SWISSPORT LOUNGE I could have gotten into right next door thanks to my non-Delta AMEX Platinum card and I wish I had and will rather than return to this Escape lounge.
Next up my Virgin Upper Class ride home. The entire middle section of the Upper Class cabin was empty so one would expect good things. That review is up next – Rene

I agree – what a dump.
Delta withdrew access to this lounge from their Gold, Platinum and Diamond members last year (https://pro.delta.com/content/deltapro/en_US/news/products—services-archive/2014/april-2014/third-party-international-lounge-access-update-.html) but I didn’t actually miss it at all!
I agree – why Virgin don’t use their own lounge at MAN is a mystery.
Ew. Just ew. Have you hit the Virgin Lounge at LHR? It’s really nice. I know the departure taxes blow but if I don’t spend this money the government is going to get it anyhow so might add well have fancy cocktails and a massage.
@Graydon – I did. Review of that up later one 🙂
can a Delta reserve am x card and a coach VA ticket get one into LHR VA lounge?
@Lois – No. You must be GM+ to get in or be on biz ticket.
Not even GM can get in. Have to be Diamond or Platinum
@James Ward – Incorrect:
.
Additionally, Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse access will be offered to Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members at select locations. For more information please refer to Lounge Access below.

.
And there is a sign on the entrance to the lounge at LHR stating GM+
.
Now the Virgin Vacation lounge NO ONE other than those on Virgin Vacations can get in 🙁
LHR is not one of the ‘select’ locations available to GMs:
“Gold Medallion members may only access Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses within the U.S. (New York-JFK, Newark, Washington-Dulles, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco Airports).”
“Gold Medallion members, these members, may enjoy the No. 1. Traveller Lounge at LHR’s Terminal 3. “
@James – The question was about LHR.
@rene – I know. That’s the point I’m making. VS Clubhouse at LHR is NOT accessible to Golds.
“While access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in the U.K. (London-Heathrow and London-Gatwick) is not available to Gold Medallion members, these members, may enjoy the No. 1. Traveller Lounge at LHR’s Terminal 3. “
BTW, the Clubhouse at LHR is amazing! You could spend all day there. I was reluctant to leave. Possibly the best lounge in the world – certainly the best I’ve ever been to. Had a massage, fantastic meal, top notch cocktails, great service. Loved it.
@James – Yep was just there as well. Have a ton of photos. Well maybe HAD, they seem to be gone from my phone! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I’ve flown Virgin Atlantic in business-class a few times now, including on almost the exact same trip as Delta Points. I think they’re an alright airline with relatively good soft product and decent hard product — the seats aren’t really that comfortable and there’s no wireless in-flight internet. However, all the marketing buzz about Virgin is just that, unless you fly in and out of Heathrow in business-class. Otherwise, there’s really no Virgin experience on any of their other routes.
Virgin Atlantic do not own the V-Room Lounge – this is owned by Virgin Holidays which is a separate company and offers it as a cost to their customers. So Virgin Atlantic would need to contract it out for UC passengers and I presume it would be more expensive!
@Nic – Well I would assume it would be worth it for an Upper Class passenger. Then again, I hear they are working on a new Escape lounge in T2.
Maybe this is a silly question…while the T2 Escape lounge is nothing fancy, can you only access it if you are departing VA? We are arriving (Upper Class) from ATL and have another flight later in the afternoon to PRG via Easy Jet. So we have several hours in the airport between flights. DIdn’t know if we could access the lounge in between?
