$15 The Club access – The next great airline fight is not in the air but in the lounge.

15 the club pass delta points blog

We all know Delta jets are full – I mean really full. I have been looking at some of my flights over the next few months and the load levels are stunning. Several flights have only one or two seats left in coach and only a handful in 1st class. Impressive.

But one thing that is becoming a fight for passengers is lounge visits. Clearly, the Centurion lounges are just taking airport visits to a new level (at least in the USA). Unless a lounge steps up it will fall behind.

The other way to compete is price. Delta, even with it’s changes, is on the high side even at the discounted $29 single visit rate. Yes, it is less than the $35 rate for The Club at ATL access, but take a look at the TravelZoo promo above where you can get access to this club and others in the network for just $15 (not my link btw).

If you are looking for a few drinks, a sandwich, soup and such for that price it is a great value. Yes, the F concourse is a bit out of the way if you are not flying internationally, but by using the elevators and the train you can get from lounge to gate in 15-20 minutes most days.

I would clearly rather spend time in LAS in the Centurion lounge from my AMEX Platinum card, but with no Skyclub the larger The Club in LAS is not a bad choice especially for this low sale rate (do keep in mind with Priority Pass also from the AMEX Platinum card you can get in free as well).

The real question is, is this a sign of things to come. How many improvements will we see in lounges and what will the “right” price finally be to get folks in the door? Also, don’t forget about competition from American and Alaska. They are sharing more with each others club members and continue to improve offerings.

Personally, I cannot wait to see where this all shakes out. Bottom line is all this competition is good for us. – René

I guess I was wrong, there ARE times FCM is worth it for a flyer (just not very often)! Should you buy a 1st class upgrade or not.

It was nice to gain access in Alaska Boardroom in PDX via my SkyClub Executive membership. I have 4 passes from my Alaska status match but they were not needed so I think I will hand them out to some Alaska flyers on my return thru PDX just to share the love of the pancake machine. I’m fine with Delta covering my entrance it’s the least they can do for me.

Thanks for sharing Rene! I’ve wanted to try the Club at ATL and the discounted access gives me the perfect opportunity due to an upcoming international trip. 🙂

    Awesome!
I’m currenty in-flight on my way to ATL for a four hour layover and was looking at SkyClub day passes when I came across this post. For $15, it’s cheaper than getting dinner on the concourses! Especially with free soup and booze. Thanks for this! Booked, purchased, and 30 minutes from now, enjoyed!
