targeted NYC delta gold status

Normally I hate these kinds of targeted promotions, and even posting them, but this could be a nice perk for some in the NYC area if you qualify (as you can see my wife did NOT living in Indiana).

Now Gold Medallion status is not all it once was, and I would NOT:

“purchase and fly one qualifying, paid Delta One™ (fare classes J/C/D/I/Z) roundtrip transoceanic flight offering Delta One service during the Promotional Period”

to keep my Gold status unless my company was paying for the ticket. There are MUCH cheaper ways to get Gold Medallion status like getting a personal and business Delta AMEX Reserve cards and spending at least $60,000 on one of them. Then you are Gold medallion with 50,000 total MQMs without even flying.

However, the two months of Skyclub individual membership could be very nice if you are going to be flying for the next few months and the temporary Gold medallion status will also get you Skyteam lounge access in any class of service when you are outside the USA! – René

I received my gold status this year for flying one way on business elite last year (anywhere they flew the product). It was the end of the year, and a NY targeted promotion. I was silver at the time, and it was before the launch of skymiles 2015. All I needed to do was fly one way business elite, so I took a flight NY>LAX. Great product, and under $700 for the flight. I also got 50,000 bonus miles, 15,000 MQMs. No club access, but I think a much better deal than this– they’re getting you to spend the MQDs for this promotion– transoceanic is crazy expensive, even on discounted fares. And they’ve clawed back many of the great perks of gold– ANNOUNCING them only this year– Comfort+ is now only available 3 days out for Gold’s… the primary reason I wanted the status was to get them at booking, because on most NY originating flights platinums or diamonds will bump out golds for the upgrade.

Status should be earned from flying or otherwise earning MQMs. Promotions like this are unfair to the rest of the Delta flyers. Two cents.

I HATE when they give away status, but in this case, a transatlantic biz ticket is not small change. They aren’t giving it away to the masses as they are in Seattle.

It’d be nice to get extra miles simply by or tsing a credit card, unfortunately folks living outside the U.S. Like me in Australia are unable to obtain these cards.

Used to annoy me when You’d hear “discounts for those using the Delta Amex card “

@John – True, but you are MQD exempt outside the USA. That is HUGE!

Any ideas on how to “get” the promo if I didn’t receive the email? I live in NYC and am silver currently – should make me eligible for this, but when I enter my SM number, it says I’m not. Thoughts/suggestions?

@Dan – You can call but they will say targeted. But try!
