Last week I spent most of the week floating around the Bahamas on my first Royal Caribbean cruise (I have been on NCL in the past but NEVER again). I will have lots more and my review of my thoughts on the “Enchantment of the Seas®” but for now I want to catch up on all the “stuff” I missed out on and you may have missed as well.
The first one is discounted Skymiles award tickets to many places south of the boarder (hurry you have to book before tomorrow the 23rd). Clearly avoid the “standard” awards as we look for SAVER awards – otherwise you are just getting a discount on over priced awards! 😉
Next we have some more Hertz perks for most (targeted) medallions the best for Diamonds. Meh. Sure free perks are nice and I do tend to rent with Hertz most often but I am under – impressed with almost all rental car companies nowadays. The really sad thing is Delta, with Skymiles2015 is trying to race to the bottom with them. #NotWinning!
It seems the sweet deal to get VDGCs and MCDGCs at OM is back until the 27th of this month. This is good news but I think most of the $200 ones will be gone when I go looking for them today (best deal is 2x$200). But I will try to buy a few grand and dump them to BB after the 1st of the month as I have already loaded and unloaded my and Lisa’s cards this month.
We also all should have got notice from BB that VRs loading to BB will end 1APRIL15. Sad, but since being able to buy these with a credit card has become rarer than the spotted Dodo bird, it is less of a shocker than it would have been a year or so back. Another meh moment. Now if DGCs ever dry up – that will be a really sad day!
So these are the bits that caught my attention as I pour through a few thousand e-mails and a week worth of tweets I have missed out on (sorry if I did not get back to you or missed you – feel free to email me again if need be)! I have lots more up this week as I am going to spend much of my day looking for some last good DeltaMileageRuns before year end to post about (if I can find any) and have a post up soon about how I plan to earn my Skymiles next year since we all clearly know that flying Delta will be the worst way possible to earn Skymiles next year!- René

New email from Amex:
We are writing to make you aware that the previously published Delta® SkyMiles® program update, which would have limited the number of Membership Rewards® points that could be transferred into a SkyMiles1 account beginning January 1st, will not take effect.
As part of American Express’ continued partnership with Delta, this means that there will be no annual limit on point transfers from the Membership Rewards Program2 to the Delta SkyMiles program. You will continue to enjoy your Membership Rewards benefits and the ability to transfer3 Membership Rewards points to the SkyMiles program as you do today.
@Gregg – yep blogged that last week at some point.
Now I have a question….
I booked a RT ticket from FLL to PDX for travel two weeks ago and the seats were between 25k and 40k miles RT. Need to book another ticket for travel on 1/19 and the cost of the ticket in miles is the same as before 1/1. I thought that this was supposed to change.
Gregg
@Gregg – not until after 1JAN. then again Delta is so honest with us that all will be great next year I am sure 😉
How do we find SAVER award tickets as opposed to regular award tickets? I try to think of myself as relatively savvy but I’m nothing compared to you!!
Also… So many times I read your posts and I have no idea what all the acronyms stand for. Is it possible to have a guide of all the initials and acronyms?? It would be so helpful!

As to SAVER awards, just keep looking or calling till you find what works.
For the first time in 9 years of flying out of the DTW area I booked an American flight for my first work trip in January.
I’m a pretty reliable Delta silver with 35-40k mqm and about $4000 in spend, mostly all from work travel.
I can book my own flights and when I was told to book a flight to San Diego in 2 weeks I ran the numbers and saw that I’d get 2,400 miles in 2015 and the direct flight wasn’t conveinent anyway, so I booked American through Dallas and Chicago to get full mileage. I’ve got about 100k miles with each right now so I’m gonna give AA a try and will book Delta flights when it makes sense (short flight, high price). No real loyalty from me, just going to try and get the most value out of each trip.
