I was not able to attend this year’s 2014 Freddie awards (I will be there in Atlanta for 2015) but as a Delta loyalist I am not all that sad I missed it as Delta had no chance to win anything this year.
Last year when I was in attendance it was embarrassing. Delta was barely even nominated to win in any category. It is hard to win when you are never on the board. 🙁
You have to go all the way back to 2012 for Delta to show up on the winners page as well as the Delta CO-Branded AMEX card.
So why is Delta doing so badly year after year and, unless things change BIG TIME, will embarrass themselves in their home town for 2015? The answer is simple and I see it every single day on the blog from readers:
TRUST
Or I should say lack there of. Frequent flyers don’t trust Delta. They expect them to “do them wrong” that is, to make customer unfriendly moves. The old frequent flyer program, while very hard to find low level redemption, sorta worked and had some very good features; now we have Skymiles2015 on the way! Just how many votes do you think Delta is going to get next spring when voting begins?
Not just Skymiles2015, but all the changes without notice. Delta hides behind “legal” reason to spring changes on us. Now AA did this recently and the uproar was immediate; not to the changes, but to the NO warning. Delta is famous for this. Flyers don’t trust Delta to give them notice. This is one of the biggest reasons they have not won for years and will not win in 2015.
I do think the event at the new Delta Museum will be amazing and fun and a great week, but I just hope Delta can think about winning back some measure of trust from those who are most loyal to the program before the event next year. – René

Of course they didn’t win. Trust. You are correct. But so what? Do you seriously believe the general public cases whether their airline, hotel or car rental firm won a Freddie?
AA wins it every year because of their 8 SWU policy, but they’re mostly worthless because 90+% of their long haul is still done via slanted seats.
if skymiles2015 can win anything, then ryanair can win best customer service too
I enjoy flying with Delta, but I seriously doubt senior management or stockholders care about winning some award.
@Geoff – well yes! http://news.delta.com/2014-04-25-Delta-SkyMiles-and-Starwood-Preferred-Guest-Honored-at-the-2014-Freddie-Awards-with-an-Industry-Impact-Award-for-its-Introduction-of-Crossover-Rewards

They do! Even when the loose everything they post a PR about a gift award by the event!
Rene, also delta cares enough about awards to put on all of their planes a logo about being recognized as one of the most admired companies a few years ago. I don’t know how they won that one, but if satisfaction of their most loyal customers counts for anything, I would not expect delta to win it again.
Not winning an award is indicative of how bad Delta handles its loyal customers. As a Diamond Medallion I’ve repeatedly been told “no” by Delta for a variety of things. They don’t seem to get that if you go beyond you’ll win the customer. I hate to say it but they’ve become a bus service with wings.
Of course they didn’t win anything – the program stinks even worse than UA and AA which tells you something. At least with UA and AA you can sometimes redeem miles at the lowest levels on the chart. The only category where DL excels is free elite upgrades on domestic flights. There’s not a category for that.
