It has landed and it is loading into the schedule. I will be on it twice in January thanks to the amazing $73 each way mileage run that popped up from MKE last week. As you can see from the screen shot above, the official Delta Blog TakingOff is very proud of the new bird.

The inside looks interesting with the new lighting and interiors. The seats look good at first peek and the Boeing video above shows some nice first looks at what to expect.
Delta’s Facebook post about them shows the Zodiac slim-line seats in coach. EDIT: The 737-900 will have the Pinnacle seat by BE Aerospace in coach and the Zodiac 6810 in first class. We also know the “new” 717’s (that just stared flying today) will have slim-line seats and the airline promotes this as an “enhancement” to the customer experience as my Award Booking Guru ADAM points out in his post here.
I am trying to decide just where to sit (if I do not get my upgrade). Do I take the one I have now, the two seater that seems to say it has full recline (EDIT: I have been told the Delta map is wrong and these have limited recline also) and exit. I think I want this over the front row of Economy Comfort that has a bulkhead wall as I will gladly trade “four more inches of recline” for better leg room. It is also interesting to compare the Delta seat map of what are good and bad seats compared to what Seat Guru says is a good seat!
Personally I am looking forward to flying this new bird as well as the Dreamliner one day. I think many of the visual changes Delta is making will have an impact on the travel experience. Clearly the technology in the 787 is beyond this and I look forward to that ride (just wish Delta would start getting some so I don’t have to go Skyteam to try it). Are you looking forward to this new jet in Delta’s livery? – René

Meh, another cramped single aisle(and longer)cabin.
At least it’s clean since it’s new:)
I think the 737’s in general are decent short haul products, but if they are going to use this on 5 hour legs (like the 757-300), then I would not be happy. I don’t want to end up on this from SFO-HNL, or from JFK-DUB.
Any chance you’re heading MKE-ATL-SFO/LAX on Dec. 6 or 7?
@Brabbit – no my run is in Jan2014.
I’m very much looking forward to Delta’s new 739s. I’ve been on some of United’s (gasp…I mentioned the name! Gahh!) 739s and they are very quiet. Yes, they can feel somewhat cramped compared to United 787s (LOVE those birds! Like flying on a cloud!); however, as a shorter 5’8″ guy even regular economy doesn’t bother me and I have plenty of room. I, too, cannot wait until Delta has their own 787s, especially since Boeing will most likely have the bugs worked out (mostly?) by then. 🙂
Been on a Turkish Airlines one IST to KIG in First. It was heavenly.
The Dreamliner is nice. Super quiet. Up front very comfy but the bed was so so honestly.
These new birds look nice. I like new over old all day.
I think it will be interesting to see the routing. Since they can/will replace the 757-200 that will remove only 4 F seats. The lighting looks like a great idea and the reviews have been good. I look forward to flying on one. It would have been better if they went wider like the A320. I see they are using a 757-200 with four rows in F for the SLC-DCA morning flight. Will make it hard for the RU.
OMG, Delta/Boeing should hire me – that guy in the video was terrible – I’ve only done a few local car dealer commercials & I’m no professional actor, but the actor in this video should switch to doing commercials for funeral homes!!
Excited for power outlets! Finally. USB great as well.
