Heck YES!!!! 🙂
Royal Caribbean really knocked it out of the park with the redevelopment of their Bahamian private island, Coco Cay (the locals pronounce it Coco “Key”). Now known as Perfect Day at Coco Cay, the cruise line’s private destination located in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas really stepped up the private destination game. Now with a pier capable of docking two ships, and $250 million invested in fun-filled activities, a private beach club, cabanas, a water park (all extra cost), and the largest fresh water pool in the Caribbean (FREE pool time, but drinks are extra, though your drink package works on the island), a port stop at Coco Cay really is a #PerfectDayatCocoCay!!
What Makes Perfect Day at Coco Cay so Perfect?
It’s hard to describe in detail just how much Coco Cay has changed over the years. From my first visit in 2004 until my most recent last year, I’ve always enjoyed the island. You can find a quiet spot, or party at the bar. The snorkeling is awesome. The water beautiful. It’s just a good place to be. But now, things are next-level from the moment you arrive.
Part of the investment in Perfect Day at Coco Cay was construction of a pier, which eliminated the need to tender to the island. Now, rather than board a small boat for the ride from the ship, you can walk right off the ship and into the fun. Depending on your plans for the day, your first stop might be the massive new water park, or one of my favorite spots, the pool, where DJs spin great music and the swim up bar is well stocked with thirst-quenching beverages of all kinds just for you.
Keep walking past all this and you’ll eventually find some really wonderful beaches. Just play in the water or take a nap in one of the loungers……or both. It’s really up to you!!
You will not struggle to find things to do if you really want to be active. On the other hand, there are plenty of quiet places to just relax, and many of those won’t cost you a penny extra. But there’s one place that I enjoy most to make my day perfect, and it’s worth the price of admission to me.
Coco Beach Club for the Win
I love Coco Beach Club!!! The private enclave at Perfect Day at Coco Cay is available for an extra charge for standard admission which includes lunch and access to the beach and infinity pool. If you really want a treat, book a cabana at the Beach Club that comes with an attendant dedicated to ensuring you have the best experience from drinks all day to lunch.
While I haven’t yet sprung for a beach club cabana, I’ve booked multiple day passes to the beach club. The cost varies but my most recent visit (August 2022) was $300-ish for the 2 of us…..and worth every penny to us. In addition to a more exclusive, less crowded experience, you’ll have a wonderful lunch, plentiful bar service and access to the beautiful infinity pool and beach.
The pool, the beach, and the service are great, but I really enjoy lunch at Coco Beach Club. This is a step up from the “beach bbq” food available elsewhere on the island.
Did I mention that I love Coco Beach Club?!?!?! And Perfect Day at Coco Cay?!
Are More Private Destinations on the Way?
Royal Caribbean is not stopping with Perfect Day at Coco Cay. The company recently purchased a tract of land on Paradise Island, The Bahamas and has big plans for the property including a new destination concept, the Royal Beach Club.
According to the company,
“the Royal Beach Club will offer guests and residents access to enjoy a pristine beach and the spectacular turquoise waters The Bahamas has become so well known for. With a more than 50-year legacy of innovative and award-winning experiences for guests, Royal Caribbean will curate a high-quality club experience at the beach with a unique sense of place inspired by local flair and flavors, where everyone can simply relax in the sun or enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment.”
I don’t know about you, but I’d love to visit the Royal Beach Club on my next Royal Caribbean cruise stopping in Nassau!!!
The Bottom Line
I love Perfect Day at Coco Cay. If there are similar itineraries where one includes Perfect Day, and the other doesn’t, I’m booking the one with a stop at Perfect Day at Coco Cay, full stop. It’s a great destination full of things to do for the whole family! I’ll take a look at Royal Caribbean’s other private destination, Labadee, Haiti, in a future post. – MJ

The issue I have with CoCo Cay is that the water in the pool and the splash pad is not heated. In the summer it doesn’t matter but in the winter the water is just frigid. They should invest in some solar panels and heat the water on the island.
Hey Nick. All the pools are warm to me since I live up north. 😀
Thanks for the comment. I could kind of get into the idea of a heated pool there in February too!
