What Kind of Points/Miles the Card Earns: The Chase Freedom Unlimited® is advertised as a cashback card. What it earns, however, are Chase Ultimate Rewards® points that can be converted to cashback (statement credit, direct deposit, mailed check) or used toward travel, gift card redemptions, donations, or other rewards. Unlike some other cash back cards, there’s no minimum required to redeem your points toward cash back.
Annual Fee: $0
Foreign Transaction Fees: 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars
Points Earnings (after the welcome offer is exhausted):
- 5% (5X) for each eligible dollar spent on Chase Travel℠ purchases
- 5% on Lyft rides through March 2025
- 3% on dining at restaurants (including takeout and eligible delivery services)
- 3% at drugstores
- 1.5% on all other eligible purchases

What We Like About This Card
The $0 annual fee, combined with the 5X and 3X bonus categories are fantastic. Earning 3% back on dining — especially from a no-annual-fee card is pretty great.
As longtime Delta Air Lines and American Express® Membership Rewards® fans, it was a bit jarring to jump on board the Chase wagon.
But, man, we are glad we did.
First of all, you can purchase all sorts of travel — including Delta flights — through Chase Travel℠. Chase also has a ton of transfer airline and hotel loyalty program transfer partners. (They practically have a stranglehold on hotels: IHG, Marriott, and Hyatt.)
Three Chase Ultimate Rewards® cards allow card members to apply points at higher redemption rates when booking travel through Chase Travel℠.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® (50% bonus)
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (25% bonus)
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (25% bonus)
You can transfer the points you earn on your Chase Freedom Unlimited® to one of those cards — and make them even more valuable. That’s why the current welcome offer is especially attractive.
What We Don’t Like About This Card
The 3% foreign transaction fee is pretty lame. Make sure to use your card only in the United States — and that goes for websites, too. You’ll get dinged the 3% if you buy something from a website based outside the U.S.
