No, this is not an April Fool’s Day headline. It’s real.
Thanks to budget disagreements among politicians on all sides of the aisle (remember, it’s not Republicans and Democrats anymore), TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are being temporarily shut down starting Sunday, February 22, at 6:00 AM Eastern.
According to the Washington Post, this is “one of several emergency measures the agency said it is taking to redirect staffing more than a week after Congress failed to send more money to the agency. ”
But here’s where shutdowns actually affect Congress members: ”Among the changes the agency is making starting Sunday is suspending airport police escorts for members of Congress and other expedited services, the agency said,” the Post added, citing a DHS spokesperson.
Congress is on a scheduled recess. (I swear, they take more recess than school children. That’s an ironic analogy.) But once they travel back to D.C. without their airport escorts — and their families and friends can’t use PreCheck and Global Entry — that might light a fire under them. Because when consequences actually happen to people, that’s when they seem to act.
Get ready to take out your laptops, tablets, and liquids. Remember those belts and shoes, too.
Contact Your Congressperson
In case you’d like to tell your congressman or congresswoman how you feel — perhaps from an insanely long TSA line — here’s how to get in touch with them.

Crazy no pre-check and GE of course I’m traveling this week!!
What if you have Clear?
Clear may get you to the front of the TSA line. But you still need to do all the security stuff with laptops, liquids, etc.
LMAO the way this article is written speaks volumes about the authors political leanings.
“TSA PreCheck & Global Entry are supposedly funded by user fees. Suspect this is more about making people angry and blaming sides than a true operational reason.” – DOc
And which way do I lean?
