On a recent trip to Washington, DC, I was finally able to check out the Capital One Landing “lounge” at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)! I say “finally” because the concept and the food provided through a partnership with José Andrés really appealed to me and I had easy access to the lounge as a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card cardholder.

Introduction

I looked forward to flying out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), swiping my card, and seeing what it was different about this “lounge.”

When Capital One announced the new Capital One Landing at DCA, here’s what they had to say:

Capital One Landing is a new concept that brings elevated food and beverage and essential airport amenities like luggage nooks and private restrooms to the heart of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). That means you don’t have to stray far from your gate to find first-class treatment, inventive food and refined vibes.

The world-renowned José Andrés Group is again partnering with Capital One to bring to life the deep connection between food and travel. Together, they’ve previously curated memorable moments for Capital One customers via Capital One Dining and exclusive food-focused Venture X trips.

Location and Access

Capital One Landing sits airside in DCA’s Terminal 2, with an entrance from the National Hall main thoroughfare near Concourse D.  Its location is closest to American Airlines’ gates, though it was a less than 10-minute walk for us to our Delta gate B19, which is about as far as you can get from Capital One Landing at DCA.

TIP – You may want to get dropped off at the North Security Checkpoint, where the American Airlines check-in is located, as it’s the closest security point to the Capital One Landing at DCA.  If you don’t need to check a bag or get a boarding pass with another airline this can save you some time walking the length of the National Hall.

Map of Washington, D.C. (DCA) Reagan National Airport. It shows Terminal 1 with Gates A1-A9 and Terminal 2 with Gates E46-E59, D35-D45, C23-C34, and B10-B22. The map highlights the locations of the North and South Security Checkpoints, the Metro, and the Conference Center & Historic Lobby. A red star marks the location of the Capital One Lounge near Gate D36.

The lounge is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Venture X Business cardholders can enjoy complimentary access for themselves and one guest.  This policy is different from the current access rules for other airports’ Capital One Lounges, which allow cardholders to enter with up to two guests without incurring a fee.  These rules are February 1, 2026, as Chris previously covered here, but for now, here are the cards that grant access, as well as the current rules.

  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Venture X Business members and up to two guests can enter the lounges for free. (Each additional guest is $45.)
  • Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business can enter the lounges for $45 a person.
  • Guests without one of those cards can enter the lounge for a $90 fee per visit.
  • You can enter up to three hours before your flight departs. Entrance is not granted to people arriving at their final destination.

At 5,500 square feet, the Capital One Landing at DCA has a max capacity of 90 guests.  This is meaningfully smaller than the Capital One Lounge at nearby Dulles International Airport, with 8,500 square feet and a capacity of 120 guests.  But that lounge is also a more traditional layout while Capital One Landing at DCA is really laid out like a sit-down restaurant and bar with a few quirks.

The image shows the entrance to a Capital One Landing lounge in an airport. The lounge has a modern design with a sign displaying the Capital One logo. Inside, there are people sitting and interacting in a well-lit area with hanging lights and plants. The space has large windows allowing natural light to enter.

The Experience

The Capital One Landing at DCA accepts reservations that can be made through the Capital One App.  Unfortunately, this proved to be extremely glitchy for me.  It started over a month ahead when I had booked my flight.  I went in to see if I could make a reservation to ensure that we would be able to visit.  Unfortunately, the calendar showed only sporadic availability with no availability on the day we were flying.  Once we were in DC I tried again to see if I could secure a reservation and again it didn’t show any availability for our travel day.

The image shows a mobile app interface for booking a table at a restaurant. It displays the current time as 14:48 and has options to select the number of guests, with "2 guests" chosen. A calendar for September 2025 is visible, with the 16th highlighted. Below the calendar, available time slots for Tuesday, September 16 are listed, including 6:00 AM, 6:15 AM, 6:45 AM, 7:00 AM, and 7:15 AM, all marked as "EXCLUSIVE." The atmosphere is described as "Casual." Navigation arrows are at the bottom.

I tried one more time on the drive from our hotel to DCA and the app was showing that the lounge as at capacity.

The image shows a mobile app screen for "DCA - Capital One Landing" at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. It features a photo of a modern lounge area with tables, chairs, and decorative lighting. The text indicates the lounge is located in Terminal 2, National Hall near Concourse D, with unlimited complimentary access. The hours are 06:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday. The current capacity is "At capacity." There is an option to make a reservation, though it is not required for entry. A "View Pass" button is visible at the bottom.

Despite the app showing a lack of availability, we decided to see if we could get in anyway.  Well, we were pleasantly surprised to see that there were at most 15 guests in the Capital One Landing at DCA.

To gain access, I needed to present my boarding pass and my Capital One Venture X personal card.  My wife only had to show her boarding pass.  We were immediately seated and the friendly host let us know how food and beverages could be ordered via their app.

The image shows a table with a red card labeled "table 22" on a gray surface. The card includes a QR code and text instructing users to scan it to order complimentary food and drinks. It also provides a URL for additional items and Wi-Fi connection details. In the background, there are brown chairs and part of a suitcase is visible.

The image is a screenshot of a mobile webpage for "Capital One Landing in collaboration with José Andrés Group." It features a photo of a meal with a bowl of soup, lettuce wraps with grapes and nuts, a small dish of olives, and croquettes on a patterned tablecloth. Below the image, there is a button labeled "Start Your Order" and links for menu and allergen information, as well as terms and conditions. The URL at the bottom is "ordertotable.com."

When we arrived a little before 11:00am and they were still serving breakfast.  There were a few buffet bakery, fruit, and yogurt options.

The image shows a countertop display in a bakery or café setting. There are three glass domes covering different types of pastries. The first dome contains croissants, the second has sugar-coated pastries, and the third holds chocolate-covered treats. In front of each dome, there are small signs and tongs on wooden trays. Behind the counter, there are kitchen appliances, plates, and utensils. The background features a geometric patterned wall. The image shows a food display counter with various items. On the left, there are plates with sliced fruits, including green melon and cantaloupe. On the right, there are several bowls containing yogurt and granola, topped with berries. Behind the counter, two people are preparing food. The counter has a wooden cutting board and a decorative pattern on the front. The image shows a beverage station with a large hot water dispenser labeled "hot water" on a counter. There are stacks of red paper cups, a container of stir sticks, and various tea bags displayed in a box. Several gray mugs are placed next to the dispenser. The counter also has built-in trash and recycle bins. In the background, there are decorative green plants and a large window with a view of the outside. Here are the options from the breakfast menu.

The image shows a digital menu interface from a collaboration between Capital One Landing and José Andrés Group. It includes tabs for "Allergies?", "Breakfast", "Coffee Bar", and "Cocktails". The breakfast menu lists items such as: - Olive oil pancake with maple syrup and seasonal berries (Vegetarian) - Scrambled tofu bowl with tomato and avocado (Vegan) - Eggs benedict with a poached egg over an English muffin and Hollandaise sauce - Pincho de Tortilla, a Spanish omelet with confit potatoes and caramelized onions - Huevos Rotos, a fried egg with Paleta Iberica and crispy French fries The top of the screen shows the time as 11:16 and a flight icon with "B19". The bottom of the screen displays "ordertotable.com".

The image shows a digital menu from a coffee bar. It lists various coffee options, each featuring La Colombe Coffee and Espresso. The options include: - Americano - Espresso - Mocha - Cappuccino - Latte - Cold Brew The menu is part of a collaboration with José Andrés Group and is accessible via ordertotable.com. The top of the image shows a navigation bar with options for Coffee Bar, Cocktails, N/A Cocktails, and Wine.

The image shows a menu from a website, featuring a list of cocktails. The cocktails listed are: 1. Ben Franklin’s Milk Punch - Ingredients include Torres 20 Spanish brandy, lemon, nutmeg, and clarified milk. 2. Fino Red Snapper - Ingredients include fino, mezcal, tomato, lemon, and spices. 3. Sangria Roja - Ingredients include red wine, Torres 10 brandy, sweet vermouth, and seasonal fruit. 4. Espresso Martini - Ingredients include vodka, banana, J. Rieger’s Café amaro, espresso coffee, and other components. 5. Negroni Cortado - Ingredients include gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, and Palo Cortado sherry. The menu is part of a collaboration with José Andrés Group and is accessible via the website "ordertotable.com".

I started our adventure with a Cold Brew AND an Espresso Martini and the Pincho de Tortilla the classic Spanish dish.  What I appreciated was that you could input any allergies in the app and the kitchen and wait staff seemed to take it very seriously.

The image shows a mobile screen displaying a basket summary from an online ordering platform. The header reads "YOUR BASKET" with an option to edit the basket. The items listed are: 1. A note asking to inform about any allergies, marked as "Gluten Free." 2. Espresso Martini, quantity 1. 3. Pincho de Tortilla, quantity 1. 4. Cold brew, marked as "Whole," quantity 1. At the bottom, there are buttons labeled "Order More" and "Place Order." The website URL "ordertotable.com" is visible at the bottom of the screen.

The image shows two drinks on a table in a restaurant setting. On the left is a dark beverage in a coupe glass, and on the right is a layered iced coffee drink in a tall glass, with a creamy layer at the bottom and a frothy top. The background features modern decor with hanging light fixtures and a glimpse of the restaurant interior. Double-fisting coffee beverages isn’t something I recommend for everyone.  But as a certified coffee addict, I really enjoyed both beverages which were restaurant quality.  While I was waiting for my tortilla to arrive I went up to the buffet to get a Greek yogurt with berries.

A slice of omelette is on a decorative white plate in the foreground. In the background, there is a bowl with yogurt topped with strawberries and blueberries. A glass of water, a fork, and a spoon are placed on the table next to the bowl.

I really appreciated that the Capital One Landing at DCA uses really cloth napkins, water glasses, and silverware.  Along with the interesting crockery it made you feel like you were in a José Andrés Group restaurant.

A clear glass and a rolled-up black napkin are placed on a dark marble table. In the background, there are cushioned seats and a person standing near a counter with plants visible nearby.

The natural light coming in the generous windows and the views reminded you that you were at an airport.  With the quality of the food and service you might have otherwise forgotten.

The image shows a modern airport lounge with several tables and chairs arranged near large windows. The windows offer a view of the airport tarmac and a terminal building with a distinctive wavy roof. Each table has a glass of water and a rolled black napkin. The interior features a mix of brown and beige tones, with some greenery visible in the corner. The space is well-lit with natural light coming through the windows.

Around 11:30 they began to change over to lunch options both on the buffet and on the app.  Here’s what the lunch buffet looked like.

The image shows a deli counter display with various types of sliced meats and cheeses. There are plates with anchovies, sliced cheese, cubes of cheese, chorizo, salami, and prosciutto. Below the plates, there are whole cheeses, bread, cherry tomatoes, and grapes. The items are labeled with small signs, and there are tongs for serving. The image shows a display case in a restaurant or café setting. Inside the case, there are various food items arranged on two shelves. The top shelf has plates with lettuce wraps and several stacked bowls, some of which are blue and others are white. The bottom shelf contains bowls with different ingredients, including sliced cucumbers, olives, chickpeas, and colorful bell peppers. There are also plates with leafy greens. Small signs with labels are placed in front of some items.

I couldn’t help but sample some of the cured meats and cheeses while perusing the lunch/dinner menu options.

The image shows a plate with a variety of cured meats and cheeses, including slices of salami, chorizo, prosciutto, and two types of cheese. The plate has an ornate design. In the background, there is a glass vessel with a spout containing a light-colored liquid, possibly wine. The setting appears to be a dining area with a table and seating.

Here are the lunch/dinner menu options.

The image shows a digital menu from a website, featuring a "Lunch/Dinner" section. It includes the following dishes: 1. Gambas al ajillo - Red shrimp confited with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, and chili. 2. Croquetas de pollo - Chicken and Bechamel Fritters. 3. Lentejas - Mom’s Lentil Soup (Vegetarian). 4. Eggplant and tofu donburi - Tofu and eggplant, steamed rice, red onion, avocado, and pickles. 5. Piquillos confitados - Piquillo peppers roasted and confit with garlic, thyme, and olive oil. The menu is part of a collaboration with José Andrés Group and is associated with Capital One Landing. The website URL at the bottom is "ordertotable.com".

The image shows a digital menu for lunch and dinner options. It includes: 1. **Carne asada con mojo verde** - Grilled hanger steak with mojo verde sauce. 2. **Bikini de Queso** - Grilled 3 cheese sandwich (Vegetarian). 3. **Pincho de tortilla** - Spanish omelet with confit potatoes and caramelized onions. 4. **Bikini Mixto** - Grilled ham and Swiss cheese. 5. **Taco de Chilorio** - White corn tortilla with beef chilorio stew, onion, cilantro, and lime. 6. **Salmon en Papillote** - Salmon with sweet onion, fennel, and herbs cooked in parchment. 7. **Roasted Corn with Macha Sauce** - Roasted corn with spicy macha sauce, cilantro, and sour cream. The menu is part of a collaboration with Capital One and José Andrés Group.

Once again we appreciated that they noted which items were gluten free, vegetarian, etc.  I couldn’t resist ordering the Carne Asada, the shrimp, and the corn.  Oh and a taco too for research purposes.

Three dishes are arranged on a dark table. The top dish contains shrimp in a light sauce. The bottom left dish has slices of steak with a green sauce. The bottom right dish features roasted corn topped with cilantro and a drizzle of white sauce, accompanied by a lime wedge.

A taco on a decorative plate with a corn tortilla, topped with shredded meat, chopped onions, and cilantro. A lime wedge is placed on the side. The plate is lined with a piece of parchment paper.

The food was really delicious.  I think that it’s possibly the best “lounge food” that we’ve ever had though admittedly we are huge fans of Spanish cuisine.  When I think of lounges that we’ve visited with cooked to order food like the Virgin Clubhouse or Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge this food blew them out of the water.  Full disclosure we haven’t (yet) experienced any of the top lounges in Asia or First Class lounges operated by Air France or Lufthansa where the food is arguably the best.

I was unbelievably full at this point but my sweeter half insisted that the review would not be complete without sampling dessert.  She selected the flan and ice cream from the buffet.

The image shows a table with a dessert setup. There is a glass of white wine on the left, a plate with a flan and a spoon in the center, and a bowl of ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce on the right, placed on a decorative plate with a napkin. In the background, there is a seating area with brown leather couches, a table with glasses, and some greenery. A suitcase and a bag are visible near the seating area.

Unable to eat any more and thankful for the 10 or so minute walk to our gate we visited the restrooms and headed out.  It’s nice that the lounge includes two unisex restrooms within the space.  With upscale finishes including cool lighting and art it added to the feeling that we were in a restaurant and not an airport lounge.  We also appreciated that the wood tones and other design elements relate to other Capital One lounges we’ve visited at DFW and IAD.

The image shows a light-colored wooden door with a sign that reads "108 TOILET" in black text. Below the text, there is Braille. The door is slightly open, revealing a tiled floor inside. On the door, there are symbols indicating a unisex toilet.

The image shows a modern bathroom with a wall-mounted toilet. The floor has multicolored striped tiles. On the wall, there are two framed artworks: one features a person with a floral headdress, and the other depicts a person flying a kite in a field. A round light fixture is mounted on the wall above the toilet. A toilet paper holder with a roll is attached to the wall.

Final Approach

When I tally up everything that the two of us ate and drank over our nearly three-hour visit, we easily could have racked up a $200 bill for food and drinks of this quality at an airport.  That’s incredible value out of my Capital One Venture X card.  We enjoyed our Sunday Brunch at the Capital One Landing at DCA and would very much like to do it again soon.  We might need to make a point to visit the next Capital One Landing scheduled to open at LGA in Terminal B in the near future.
