This premium credit card war between two industry titans is getting spicy.
The day before The Platinum Card® from American Express‘ big refresh details will be officially announced, Chase is adding more punch to its own refreshed premium product, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the new Sapphire Reserve for Business℠.
A new hotel promotion takes effect on January 1, 2026. Chase tells us they’ll be accessible to everyone with a Chase Sapphire Reserve® — even if you’re not yet paying the $795 annual fee that’s part of the card’s refresh.
(All information about the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ was collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. It was neither provided nor reviewed by the card issuer.)

$250 Chase Sapphire Reserve® Hotel Statement Credit
From January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, Chase Sapphire Reserve® members can earn up to $250 in statement credit for the year when booking a minimum two-night stay through Chase Travel℠ at these select hotel chains:
- IHG Hotels & Resorts
- Montage Hotels & Resorts
- Pendry Hotels & Resorts
- Omni Hotels & Resorts
- Virgin Hotels
- Minor Hotels
- Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts
Plus, they’re eligible to earn Chase points for spending above the $250 credit amount. And, they’ll score hotel loyalty program points for the entire purchase.
Again, that’s for bookings purchased in 2026 and available to all Sapphire Reserve cardmembers.
I hope Chase keeps this around for 2027 — and beyond.

Changes to the $500 The Edit Credit
Chase’s version of Amex’s Fine Hotels & Resorts program is called “The Edit.” When Chase refreshed the consumer/personal Sapphire Reserve and introduced its business counterpart, cardmembers were given up to $500 to use semiannually on The Edit bookings through Chase Travel℠: $250 from January through June and then $250 from July through January.
That’s getting a customer-friendly tweak!
The entire $500 will apply to bookings made throughout the year, starting January 1, 2026. It’ll become an annual benefit instead of a semi-annual benefit.
Like the hotel statement credit promotion above, this becomes available to all cardmembers on New Year’s Day.
Final Approach
Well done, Chase. There will be people who whine about Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott not being included in the $250 statement credit. But if you already hold a Sapphire Reserve card, getting $250 knocked off a two-night hotel stay is a pretty decent perk. Especially if you can find a good deal somewhere. Granted, you need to book through Chase’s travel platform — and who knows if they’ll inflate the prices.
But I still think this is a cardholder-friendly move.
