I recently spent a night in a budget hotel I will not name but I will say the hotel does begin with “B” and ends with “aymont” by Wyndham in Michigan. The only reason I stayed at this budget hotel was was because it was a cheap free stay via my Delta Stays credits from my Delta Amex Platinum card. Even being a Wyndham Diamond I was not offered a bottle of water at check-in (yes, I know, Delta Stays do not qualify for elite perks at all).
Also this hotel was seriously lacking in the cleanliness area. The above are my socks after about an hour of walking around my room. Just gross right. Oh there is more.
If you more than wiggled in the bed the fitted sheets would pop off and require waking up and re-tucking them to then try to sleep as motionless as possible. Back to the topic of clean…
The above is the exhaust vent in the bathroom. I ask you – how hard would it be to wipe the vent every once in a while? But none of this so far is the point of my post today and my rant.
I HATE the cheap, supposedly, eco friendly pump bottles at budget hotels. Most of the time they are not locked in place so anyone can do anything (ewww) to them if they want to and it is not like these things are ever checked by hotel personnel other than replacing or refilling them. But there is something worse as you see in the shot above.
There is ONLY one place to never EVER put these things in a shower area and that is in the middle of the shower reducing the space where you are standing. Under the shower head is a pain to use with the water on but the second best location and where it seems many cruise ships choose to put them. The best location, clearly, the back wall out of the way and where smart hotels locate them.
Personally I bring my own everything from shampoo to soap as I am accustomed to the same toiletries every day so the “quality” of the soaps just does not matter to me but whacking them with my elbows or shoulders every time I turn DOES matter a lot.
There were things I appreciated about the room like the sink and “get ready” area outside the shower area (always nice) and the HVAC and TV both worked as expected. The bed, despite the low quality sheets, was not rock hard so there is that. Even breakfast was OK other than the other guests who wandered down as we were eating that looked like they all should have been wearing ankle monitors (yikes).
Anyway, rant over and I hope hotel installers get a brain and do not ever again put these pump bottles where they should never be. Agree? – Rene

gone are the days of the exotically scented soaps in luxury designed translucent cases… I collected them decades ago… and those remaining from Paris and Madrid hotels have retained their scents recalling nostalgia from long ago.
Baymont housing Section 8’s was my experience. The good thing was that you had Dove Body Wash… supposedly.
Laughed out loud at the ankle monitors comment. Thanks for. My entertainment today
