March is here – can you believe it? I am back from almost month in the Caribbean and happy to see the snow that greeted me in South Bend now gone. I am so ready to play golf again and maybe if you too are up north you are feeling the same. But enough about golf, let’s look at the travel week that was:
Many who read this blog are like me and are, each year, going for new travel cards to help offset the cost of travel. I have a very strong credit score (north of 800) and never pay a penny of interest but when I applied for a card from a major bank recently I was turned down. You will never believe the reason why. Take a look.
Each year Delta makes some tweaks to what they offer for top elites to choose as what they term their “choice benefit”. What are the best options to select? Readers chime in with what they think is the best value for them.
Chris, in the past anyway, used to drive a bulk of his spending to his numerous Delta Amex cards. In 2025, really not so much. My wife and I both hold (for now) Delta Amex cards primarily for the 15% discount to make SkyPennies worth a bit more but never spent a dollar over the minimum for the new cards bonus (well other than one Amex Offer for You that is). So what are we spending on this year? Find out.
The only hotels I have paid for, for years now, are the ones that let me spend up my Delta stay credits. All the other hotel stays are on points because why not when you can get such an amazing value from hotel points. Truly hotel points are one of the last great values in travel points. Oh and there is a sweet (i.e. HUGE) offer for you too consider for March.
The Freddie Awards are back and you have yet another chance to vote for your favorite program. Will it be Delta this year since they have never ever won even once? You have a limited time to cast your ballots so jump in and do it now.
Be safe everyone and please travel smart. I know, in my home town, even after a winter of driving most everyone around me will forget how to drive in the white stuff in a week so the next few inches we get will be interesting and I will be sure to drive defensively – please do the same if you too live where winter is still holding on! – René

Opened the AA citi card a year ago. Perfect payment. Excellent credit score, all the boxes checked. My approved credit limit is 1/3 of other cards and cannot request an increase for 6 months. It looks like the credit limit of a kid right out of college. Sigh. Renovation project goes on someone else’s card now.
