This is the last Saturday of January 2025 (let that sink in) and we are only 152 days away from Mid Summer! Considering how cold it has been around here that makes me smile. Speaking of smiling, look at the posts from the past week on the blog:
If you earned Delta Platinum or Diamond status during 2023 for the 2024 Medallion year you only have 6 days remaining to make your Choice Benefit selection before it goes poof. What should you select? Chris breaks it down for us.
For Frequent Floaters like me, who have been cruising for decades, remember when internet on a ship was as slow or slower than dial-up (cue some young readers thinking – what is dial-up). SpaceX Starlink is now on a bunch of ships including the Norwegian Escape. How fast is it? Is it reliable? See what I think.
The Delta 757s are old birds. Like really old. But Delta keeps updating and maintaining them and that includes the seats. I have flow the 2×2 Delta One seats a number of times but sadly these seats are on the way out. See why.
One of the reasons many of us hold high end travel cards is because it gives you access to lounges at airports. With airports, and airplanes, packed to the gills getting access to a somewhat less crowded area with amenities is nice. But it seems access to some Plaza Premium lounges is on the way out.
Lastly we have another HUGE hotel card offer. I try to never EVER pay for a hotel room as I use points or free certs and such to stay. You really should look at this new offer out.
Enjoy this last weekend of January and I hope you have somewhere warm in your plans for February and March before we finally get to spring! – René

Perhaps I’ve been lucky but I almost always have access to airline-operated lounges, whether via tier status or a credit card, and it is the rare exception that I must turn to an independent lounge.
And, I prefer airline-operated lounges over independent lounges (including bank-operated). While specific lounges within an airline’s network might be subpar . . . even terrible . . . ***on average***, they’ve been better quality than independent lounges. Also, airline-operated lounges typically have Lounge Angels . . . that is, agents who can help during irregular operations. (To those that argue that IRROPS assistance is a key benefit of tier status, given Lounge Angels, think again.)
To me, an avid hobbyist should be skilled enough to secure airline-operated lounge access for little or no net cost. And, when we hear about this or that cut on Priority Pass, we should say “who cares?” Are my expectations too great?
Happy trails to all.
