A great welcome offer just dropped for one of the more popular travel rewards cards out there.
If you’re Chase-curious, this might be a sign to dip your toe into the water.
New applicants of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card can earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases within three (3) months of being approved for card membership. Plus, earn up to $300 in statement credits on Chase Travel℠ purchases within your first year holding the card. (Learn here how to apply for this offer.)
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card holders can redeem points for a 25% bonus when purchasing trips through Chase Travel℠. So, those 60,000 points are potentially worth $750 in travel purchases. When you add that to your $300 statement credit opportunity, you get $1,050 toward travel.
That easily covers about 11 years of the card’s $95 annual fee.
A few things stand out about the Sapphire Preferred.
First, Chase awards you a 10% points bonus across all your spending each anniversary year. If you spend $20,000 on your card during a year, Chase will give you an extra 2,000 points.
Next, the points-earnings categories are pretty great:
- 5X on Lyft purchases through March 2025
- 5X on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠
- 3X on dining
- 3X on select streaming services
- 3X on online grocery purchases
- 2X on all other travel purchases
- 1X all other purchases
You can also earn 5X on Peloton purchases over $150 (a maximum of 25,000 total points may be earned on this through March 31, 2025.)
Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card members can earn up to $50 in statement credit each year for hotels booked through Chase Travel. Because Chase Travel is an online travel agency, you likely won’t earn any hotel loyalty program points or enjoy elite status benefits during your stay. But the $50 savings might be worth it for you. (I can suck it up for a night if it means $50!)
The card also packs very good trip cancellation/interruption insurance, auto rental collision damage waiver, lost luggage insurance benefits and more. You don’t have to charge the entire amount of your trip to the card — just a portion. This is why I use my Chase Sapphire Reserve® to pay for airfare when feasible.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card also gives members to “The Edit” hotel collection. Benefits include:
- Daily breakfast for two
- Special benefit worth up to $100
- i.e., resort credit, spa credit, etc. (determined by each property)
- Complimentary WiFi
- Room upgrade (if available)
- Early check-in and late check-out (if available)
