If you need to earn some Delta Air Lines Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD) to hit your elite status goals for next year (and/or the remainder of 2024), check out this San Francisco (SFO) to Dubai (DXB) Premium Economy mileage run-mini-vacation on Delta partners Air France and KLM.
And here’s the great part: there seem to be several dates available through the end of the year (and even a few to start 2025!).
SFO to Dubai Status Run and Mini-Vacation
Our trip departs SFO on Thursday, November 14 at 3:25 PM. You take Air France Premium Economy to Paris de Gaulle (CDG) and arrive Friday at 11:20 AM. Then you depart for Dubai at 1:35 PM and arrive that night at 11:20 PM.
You can explore Dubai all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before you depart on Monday night-Tuesday early morning at 1:55 AM on a KLM flight to Amsterdam (AMS). Your connection in AMS is three and a half hours before your 9:50 AM flight back to the Bay Area. You touch down just before noon the same day.
Make sure to book this through KLM or Air France. It’s a “A” class fare, earning MQD based on 25% of the distance flown when you credit the trip to your Delta SkyMiles number.
Important:
- Do not book through Delta. Don’t even touch the Delta app or Delta.com for this trip.
- Enter your SkyMiles number as your frequent flyer account for this trip. Even though you’re booking through Air France or KLM, do not enter your Flying Blue number.
Here’s a Google Flights link to help you start.
According to the SkyMiles Calculator at Travel-Dealz, the trip should earn:
- $4,374 MQD for US $2159.70 airfare
- 17,495 flown miles toward Delta Million Miler status
- 26,244 redeemable SkyMiles before any applicable Medallion bonuses
Good For Positioning?
Here’s another bonus about this trip: the departure and return times make it relatively easy for people who don’t live in San Francisco to commute out to/from SFO. Say you live in the Midwest or even somewhere on the East Coast. Given the change to Pacific Time, you can catch a morning trip to SFO and probably have plenty of time to make the 3:25 PM departure.
After arriving back to SFO at 11:50 AM, you’ll have time to clear customs and immigration before making a flight back home.
