I have always wanted to stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in Cleveland and when it came up on the Priority Club Point Breaks in the end of May I jumped at the chance for a visit. I’ll cover the hotel stay tomorrow, but for today here is the trip part to see some close friends in the Cleveland area.
I admit that I don’t like to drive. The idea of a cross country drive makes me crazy. Torture; pure torture. I like to “Fly Delta Jets“! I have been flying so much and spending so much time in Skyclubs that my mind just “goes there”. (I know, I know, more #firstworldproblems). So on the 80/90 toll road from SBN-CLE we popped into a rest stop along the way. Then the sickness hits me. (It feels kinda like an airport, but everyone looks more scary than usual) So, I start to look for the Skyclub to use the restroom and maybe have a drink. Silly me, they don’t have a lounge here! Then look what I find:

OK so not the same thing as a Delta Skyclub and I am quickly brought back to reality! We make it to Cleveland and after checking into our hotel, we had our friends pick us up and we were off for a nice dinner. The next day we took some time to see the local area and found the “county feel” was very similar to home. Check out this store:
Fudge, grape soda and other nummy things were purchased! Then on to some culture in Cleveland with the art museum. It was free and a very nice exhibit.
Dinner was at Bravo! And was very very good and I would go back in a heartbeat. I did not dive into my stash of Restaurant.com coupons this time just due to a total lack of time this trip. At least I got 5x points on my Chase Freedom for all my food.
While I was there it was announced the Cleveland Browns are up for sale. Back home my Colts have issues of their own with the quarterback situation. At least it is fun that football season is almost back. I would like to go back and see a game some time in the stadium.
That wraps up part one. Hang on for a “stay to remember” that I was so looking forward to at the Intercontinental Hotel Cleveland tomorrow. It wasn’t what I expected it would be! – René

Where are the pics of the giant paper clip?!!! Hope you had a chance to visit the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. A
@Kate – We were going to visit the RNR HOF but you will see why we did not in tomorrow’s post. I will have a chance on my mileage run in Oct! 🙂
Like you, I would rather fly, but 2 tips to help make the ride better (besides satellite radio in the car):
1) E-Z Pass for the toll roads (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-ZPass). Buy it in the state you use the most toll roads, as your purchase state tolls are discounted.
2) GPS update with interesting Points of Interest. I get mine at POI Factory (http://www.poi-factory.com/). Most are free, but if you want red light cameras, and radars, there is a small fee. I have kids so I have mine alert me to rest areas, interesting attractions, and can search for things like state parks, wifi access, or even breweries in the area.
Tech that makes the drive better. Yes I have a smartphone, but I find these better – the tech pushed useful info to me without interaction while driving.
