A photography client hired me to edit their shoot of Fontainebleau Las Vegas’ grand opening celebration in mid-December. The person in charge of accommodations put our crew at the nearby SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center. I can’t remember the last time I stayed at a Vegas area hotel that didn’t have gambling or other Vegas-y features. In fact, this might be the first time! (Disclosure: My room and tax were taken care of by a third party. I paid for incidental purchases made at the hotel.)
So, what was it like?
Where is the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center?
The hotel is located at 2989 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89109. It is about a half-mile east of the northern part of the Strip.
As you might have guessed, the hotel is near the massive Las Vegas Convention Center.
Inside the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center
I instantly noticed a few welcome qualities when I walked through the front door. The hotel is clean, relatively quiet, and there’s a ton of lobby space where you can enjoy time with your colleagues or get some work done. (It’s also where you sit for breakfast — more on that soon.)
My room was on the 18th floor and faced south.
There was plenty of space.
The bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I hoped. I slept very well the first night. However, we worked the Fontainebleau event well into the early morning hours on the second night. I laid down for a nap around 4:45 AM before getting up at 6:30 to go to the airport (there was an event at my daughter’s school).
Here’s a view of the TV from the bed. I didn’t love that it was off-center. Then again, I didn’t exactly have a ton of time to watch television while lying in bed.
The room also features a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.
The toilet is in a room separate from the shower and vanity.
The vanity’s sink was slow to drain. The water pressure and temperatures were great in the shower and both faucets. No complaints there!
The rooftop is where you’ll find the gym (if you’re into that sort of thing). It’s also home to the outdoor pool and some great views.
I ate two meals at the property’s small-ish restaurant.
On the first day, I enjoyed some delicious chicken wings. On day two, I ordered a cheeseburger. They were out of French fries, tater tots, and sweet potato fries. Ugh.
But I was offered breakfast potatoes — and they were fantastic!
Most of the staff weren’t particularly warm. They aren’t rude or anything — but I rarely saw smiles.
There were a couple of bartenders I chatted with — and they were great: a young mom who used to work in the entertainment business and a gentlemen who appeared to be college-aged. Another woman also worked in the bar at night. She was — well, I’ll just say I think she was having a bad week. Because if that’s how she is all the time…
Two Great Benefits
There are a couple of fantastic perks I really appreciated.
First of all, the hotel offers a small but free breakfast buffet.
Yes. A decent free breakfast. In Las Vegas. (I had eggs, an English muffin, some fruit, and coffee. They were pretty good. I thought I took a picture but apparently didn’t.)
Here’s my only knock against the breakfast: it ends at 9:00 AM on weekdays. (I think it’s 10:00 on the weekends.)
Next, there’s a water bottle refilling station in the lobby. I drink a lot of water — which can quickly get expensive if you buy bottles from hotel stores. (I usually make trips to convenience stores — if at all possible — when I travel.)
So, that came in very handy in terms of use and saving money. That’s especially helpful in the desert!
Here’s What You Won’t Get
This is not a place featuring gambling or all-night food and drinks. The bar-restaurant closes at 10:00 or 11:00 PM. (The front desk sells off-sale alcohol and some packaged food items when the bar and restaurant are closed at night.) You have to leave the property to find all the fun, Vegas-y stuff. (We’ll talk about where in just a few minutes.)
But on the same token, you don’t have to walk through a casino to get to the guest elevators — they’re about 50 feet from the front door. (However, I did sort of miss the circus-like music and ding-ding-dings!from slot machines.) It’s a non-smoking property, which I enjoy.
Where Can You Go for Fun?
What if you want to get out and experience some Las Vegas? Gambling and 24-hour food and beverage options are relatively nearby.
Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino is across the street — as is the Las Vegas Monorail, which can take you as far south as MGM Grand.
The aforementioned Fontainebleau Las Vegas is about a half-mile away. So are Circus Circus and Slots-A-Fun. Resorts World is about a mile and a half. I did some gambling at Circus Circus. A few of us enjoyed a drink there, too, one night. (I don’t know how often we’ll be back but it was fun to do once.)
And, of course, you can take an Uber or Lyft anywhere else such as the Strip or downtown.
Final Approach
I enjoyed staying at the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center. I love Las Vegas and generally prefer my favorite spots such as Delano, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and New York-New York (you heard me.)
I lost track of how many times I’ve stayed at MGM Grand for work. But to be honest, I kind of preferred the SpringHill Suites. It’s much quieter than MGM (and many mega-resorts). I wasn’t overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana. The hallways aren’t ten miles long and I could go from the lobby to my room in a minute or two.
I don’t know that I’ll stay there for fun, vacation trips. But I won’t complain much if I end up there again for work.
Have you stayed at this property? What do you think of it?

Out of curiosity, was there a resort fee and if so, how much?
No taxes and my resort fee was waived with my MGM Gold status.
I liked this place and just made another reservation there. It’s off the Strip so not as much traffic. Easy to get to as well as anywhere else you are going in that area. The parking can be interesting in some slots being kind of small but still not bad and the price was right compared to other Marriott places.
I wonder if opening up the MGM places under Marriott will help with lower pricing in Vegas. LOL. I know I was laughing as I was typing that last line.
Oh and for those interested they DO have a happy Hour as well
Their happy hour prices were insanely great. I think I paid $5 for Jim Beam. It’s no Buffalo Trace or Woodford, of course. But for $5? Heck yeah.
