If you need some last-minute Delta Air Lines SkyMiles Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD) for your 2024 status and want to spend a week in Paris (yes, the one in France), we found a Premium Economy status-mileage run that might work for you.
San Francisco (SFO) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
This is a Virgin Atlantic-marketed trip that operates on Delta, Air France, and Virgin.
BOOK THIS TRIP THROUGH VIRGIN ATLANTIC AND PUT YOUR SKYMILES NUMBER DOWN AS YOUR PREFERRED FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM. That’s the whole point.
According to the Unofficial Sky Miles calculator, the trip flights 11,374 miles in Virgin’s “K” fare class. MQD-wise, that earns 30% of the distance flown, which comes to $3,412 MQD. (Delta is reducing that rate next year.) There’s a short hop in “X” class on an Air France flight. That earns 10% of the distance flown: 216 miles or $21. That gives us our $3,433 total. The trip currently costs $1,393. That’s almost a 2.5X MQD return on your ticket price. Not too bad for a premium economy mini-vacation run late in the year.
You should also earn 17,806 MQM and 17,556 redeemable Sky Miles (before any applicable Medallion bonuses).
You depart San Francisco at Thursday, December 7, at 1:35 PM. This allows you plenty of time to get to SFO if you have to take a positioning trip there. You take a Delta flight marketed as a Virgin codeshare to Los Angeles (LAX). That will be in Comfort+. Then you’re Delta Premium Select — again, your ticket will be on Virgin Atlantic stock — to Paris.
You arrive at CDG just after 1:05 PM on Friday. Enjoy that and Saturday night in Paris!
You leave Sunday at 10:00 AM on an Air France flight to London Heathrow (LHR). This is the Economy Standard (X) fare earning fewer MQD than the Premium Economy flights.
Then you actually take a Virgin Atlantic flight! This one gets you to SFO at 4:15 PM. Once you clear customs and immigration, you should have time to take a positioning trip back home, if needed.
Hey, look! You can “upgrade” to Main Cabin for $31! Classic.
Lounge-wise, Delta Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallions should be able to access the SFO and LAX Sky Clubs because they’re traveling in Premium Economy. (An eligible Amex card will work, too.) Then there are the Air France Salons (airport club lounges, not hairdressers!) in CDG for SkyTeam Elite Plus members. Club Aspire is your only shot at Heathrow.
