A terminal many Delta Air Lines passengers know well will look quite different in 2025.
Terminal 1 (the “Lindbergh Terminal”) at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) has undergone some significant improvements at the far south end of the G Concourse (including a great new Delta Sky Club). But the other concourses will also get some love as part of “the single largest interior renovation of concourses and passenger gate areas at” MSP, as announced by the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC).
(I genuinely love this airport — but hasn’t it been under construction since forever?)
The project is slated to cost $242 million. MAC is paying $182.5 million and Delta is footing the tab’s remaining $60 million. Twin Cities Business reports Delta is managing the project’s construction.
What are some of the planned renovations? According to MAC:
• More accessible and durable Terrazzo flooring to replace the carpet in passenger corridors in concourses A, C, D and G, and new carpet in concourses B and F
• New wall finishes, including quarter-height granite in public corridors and tile in Delta gate hold rooms
• Brighter, more modern and sustainable LED lighting in concourse walkways and gate areas
• Metal panel ceiling system in the majority of concourse walkways
• New structural column covers
• Technology upgrades that include dynamic flight information screens along concourse walkways at every gate.
• Full refresh of 75 Delta gate hold rooms
• New gate seating with power outlets
• New carpeting in gate areas to mirror experience at other Delta hub airports
• Updated gate information display screens
• Refreshed Delta branding across all gate areas
Whomp, whomp, Air Canada, Alaska, American, United, Frontier, and Spirit flyers. Concourse E is odd concourse out.
On my wish list: more space in the G concourse gate rooms. Many get so cramped during boarding times. But I don’t know how that could be accomplished without removing some vendor space. But some of that seems to already be in the works, as MAC said the airport is “doubling the seating capacity of gates G8 through G13.”
Here’s a rendering of the D gates (though I don’t see any power sources).
MAC says work started on the D and F concourses last month. The C Concourse phase kicks off in February. “Improvements on concourses A, B, G and the skyway bridge connecting Concourses C and G are scheduled for 2025,” the MAC announcement reads. “Delta’s gates will remain open during the construction, with the most intense construction work scheduled during overnight hours.”
I think the C-to-G skyway is already great. I’m curious what they’re going to improve. Maybe some of the lighting or something? Install new carpet?
All in all, the project should be completed before the end of 2025. (What will they work on then? The Humphrey Terminal? Built another parking garage? Add a tram to the G Concourse? I’m sure they’ll think of something. 🙂 )
What About the Sky Clubs?
Returning to the F/G Sky Club and C Concourse Sky Clubs after visiting the gorgeous new lounge near G18 is tough. (#FirstWorldProblems) The F/G location is fine but nothing special. The C Concourse Sky Club is fairly meh and needs some attention. (The Delta reps who staff that lounge are always so friendly and kind.)
Don’t get your hopes up.
A Delta spokesperson told me there are “no planned updates to the (F/G and C Concourse Clubs) as part of this project.”
Oh, well.
Final Approach
T1 at MSP is undergoing a significant renovation in the A, B, C, D, F, and G concourses. I love MSP and think it already is pretty awesome in most places (though very frequent MSP flyers probably could point out a few things they feel it lacks). So, I’m eager to see what the place looks like in 2025!

E is not on the plans because it’s going to be demolished and rebuilt.
OMG. That airport will never not be under construction!
Ugh that dreadful black carpet from the other Delta hubs that magnifies every crumb dropped. Drab and depressing too.
At least the C club stays in that vintage Northwest style Rene enjoys as do I.
They need to get rid of all of the carpet. With our weather, the carpet always is trashed and near impossible to pull your roller bag on it. They need to have larger moving walkways so more people can fit on them. The moving walkway on G is so slow and too narrow. Glad to see Delta is managing it and not the politicians…at least it will get done on time and budget!

I’m pretty impressed with the job Delta is doing with the T3 Sky Way project at LAX. Yes, the pandemic standstill played a part in accelerating the progress. But Delta didn’t sit on their hands. I know two years isn’t exactly a snap of the fingers but I was pleasantly surprised when I read all of the MSP work should be done by YE 2025.
I guess most of these things are mainly cosmetic and don’t involve any large structural changes. The MAC’s long-term plan does have the F-concourse coming down and a new one being built that aligns with the G-concourse. That is the same plan for the E-concourse where it will align with the C-concourse and the D-concourse goes away completely. Perhaps that is when we will see that F/G SkyClub replaced with something new and possibly mirroring the one down at G17 but it will be at the opposite end. Although, I guess that is 5-10 years down the road after they complete the T2 expansion and also connect T2 to T1 with a pedestrian tunnel connecting it to the G-concourse.
Wow, a T1 – T2 tunnel will be great for getting in some steps!
