I spent some time this afternoon trying to find mileage runs for our hub-captive friends at airports such as ATL, DTW, MSP, and SLC. The only luck I had was something okay-ish for folks in Atlanta.
This overnight Delta mileage run to Kona travels ATL-Detroit-Los Angeles-KOA-Seattle-Cincinnatti-ATL.
Yes, it’s in Main Cabin. As always, Platinums and Diamonds with Upgrade Certificates can apply them and hope for the best. They can also upgrade to Comfort+ shortly after booking.
The trip costs $641.49. Delta says it’ll yield 10,235 MQM and $551. That comes out to about 6.3 cents per MQM.
I found several available dates in December with the same or close-ish MQM yields (Seattle to Salt Lake City to ATL on the return was another option).

The Kona airport has a restaurant with great french fries. Outside of that, there’s really nothing to do. Come prepared with a tablet or laptop loaded with movies, TV series, or books.

I am ending the year with 3 runs to reach 500K MQMs. All are MIA-SEA via JFK both ways and yield approx 7K MQMs each. I pirchased each ticket for about $350. They are for early Nov or early Dec. which is about 5 cents per MQM.
