UPDATE: The NEWS IS OUT! See this post for all the Delta changes!
What a wonderful way to wrap up a busy and draining week.
My wife and mother-in-law flew to the East Coast early Wednesday following a very unexpected death in the family. I’m not a doctor, nurse, or any medical professional. But here is some advice a firefighter friend gave me: If you feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest, call 911. It’s not an anxiety attack.
My daughter and I picked up my wife at LAX on Saturday afternoon. (Her United flight from Newark (EWR) was late after a medical issue on the ground and a technical problem before they left New Jersey.)
We then headed over to Cranky Dorkfest to meet some friends and check out the planes. We couldn’t stay long because I had to work Saturday afternoon. But it was so fun seeing (in random order) Carol, Larry, Christine, Benjamin, Rajiv, Shannon (701!), Shannon’s daughter (who I think was the youngest Diamond Medallion?), and Mike. I wish we had more than 20 minutes! (Did I miss anyone?)
(And those guys who loved trashing the blog to everyone who’d listen — but scattered when I showed up and heard I was “the guy who works with René.” My dudes: you were two feet away from me. Grow a pair.)
My six-year-old was awesome this week while Mommy tended to serious family business on the East Coast. She was a good listener, helped around the house, and didn’t complain too much ;-).
But during the drive home, she sold me out for everything she could: I didn’t do her hair right, her backpack wasn’t perfect, and I didn’t cut her peanut butter and jelly sandwich the perfect way Mommy does.
When my wife said, “Wow, you really threw Dad under the bus,” my kid said, “He’s too heavy. I can’t even pick up him to throw him under a bus.”
So, I decided to think about this past week on the blog. (I swear, all of that this true. I had to use it as a lead-in to my week-in-review. Follow the blog as my snarky daughter gets older.)
Here’s what we think might go down this Thursday.
No matter what happens, the “earn your miles only by flying!” group will never be happy.
The Hyatt business credit card added a twist to its welcome offer. It’s great if you love Hyatt — but is the best option for people who just want some points?
Looking for some justification to visit Maui? Steven Tyler says you should go.
A bunch of travel rewards cards now offer at least 100,000 bonus points.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and we’ll see you tomorrow!

Super fun time at Cranky DorkFest catching up with like-minded people. Thanks for taking time from your busy week to mingle for a bit and introduce us to your family. It’s going to be a nail-biting week waiting for the Delta announcement.
I wish we could’ve stayed longer! See you next month!
