My travels took me through Delta’s Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) twice during the past week.
More and more of the airline’s Sky Way project features are opening slowly but surely. Some fake walls are down, two escalators to the arrivals level opened, and there’s more seating in the T3 Sky Club. Let’s take a look!
Additional Seating at the T3 Sky Club
First, there’s more seating inside and outside at the gorgeous T3 Sky Club. For reference, this area is the west end of the club — the part closer to the ocean and where the “back buffet” is located. (It’s where the breakfast tacos are served. 😉 )

The doors behind the “Employees Only” sign lead to the forthcoming Delta One Sky Club. It’s also where Delta One passengers can enter from private elevators after they check in at the swanky new Delta One lounge.
I posted these pictures a while ago but the spaces are officially open now: more seating on the Sky Deck.
During my travels, it’s much easier to find a spot on the Sky Deck than it was last year.
Terminal 3 Improvements and TBIT Connector Tease
If I remember correctly, this space by gate 31B temporary closed.
Instead, a fake wall blocking the TBIT connector is now down. This appears to be the landbrige’s official start.
You’ll find a (very nice) Delta Help Center just before you reach a restricted area.
More fake walls are knocked down, essentially widening the walkway to the main hall of T3’s gates.
I am genuinely impressed with the job Delta and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) have done with the T3 project. I mean, remember these days?

Next, two escalators to baggage claim and arrivals opened up in the center of the T3 main gate hall.
These take you down to one of the famed mosaic-tiled halls so many people to love.
One you complete that marathon, you hang a left —
— and end up at baggage claim.
Final Approach
I think many of us who regularly use LAX appreciate these improvements. Terminal 3, especially, was awful. I used to cringe whenever my Delta flights departed from or arrived at that old dump. Now, I’m sort of disappointed when my flights aren’t in the new T3!
I believe all that’s left now is the completion of the TBIT connector (which should be done between August and January — I’ve heard conflicting reports) and some touchups to Terminal 2. But I’m quite pleased with what Delta and LAWA have accomplished thus far.

If ONLY there was a proper espresso stand in Delta’s terminal. All Starbucks and other automatic machine made coffee. Even the vending machines in Italy make a better cuppa.
A bunch of eateries still haven’t opened yet. Maybe one of them will make some good joe?

Looking good! I have typically avoided LAX whenever possible booking smaller airports (SNA or ONT) in the region on direct flights from ATL, but now I may have to re-think my strategy.
Yes, it looks good and I really like the new setup.
However, there’s nothing Delta — or any airline — can do about traffic getting to or from LAX. (I was in a 405 traffic jam at 12:45 AM yesterday morning trying to come home from LAX.)
I really wish Delta could bring back the BUR-ATL nonstops. Those were so great!

Do you know what the plan is with the terminal 2 landside area that is still all boarded up?
I’ve heard rumors of restaurants and stuff like going in where the TSA checkpoint was on the gate level. Other than that, no. That’s really a shame, I think, because there’s so much space that could be used. The T3 headhouse is nice but guest so congested.
