I don’t think the near-apocalyptic year known as “2020” got the memo that its time passed — or was supposed to — two and a half years ago.
Why do I say that?
The crazy just keeps on happening — and the travel world is no exception.
A bear seemed to enjoy some surf and sand — swimming in the ocean near Destin, Florida, then scampering onto the beach.
Hopefully, neither the bear nor human beachgoers were affected by flesh-eating bacteria that have been found on Florida beaches. (Hmmm…I’m sensing a theme here.)
A moose was spotted at Bradley Airport in Connecticut. (Maybe it looking for a certain flying squirrel?)

Unfortunately, the feds took control of the situation — and the moose was euthanized. Although, as Simple Flying points out, “…others have speculated from available footage that the moose appeared quite sickly and might have been suffering from an infection or disease. If that was the case, it might have explained how the poor animal wandered aimlessly and why euthanasia might have been the most humane option for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.”
On to less strange news!
A flight attendant suggests always throwing a water bottle under your hotel room bed when you first arrive. (Her reason? Well, let’s just say that it could be the start of a horror movie.)
Finally, I’m sad to report one of my favorite US cities has become a total loser — when it comes to its restaurants winning James Beard Awards.

There’s a lot of government-owned forest land near Destin (Eglin AFB, Point Washington State Forest, etc.) that is prime black bear habitat. I live in the area, and it’s relatively common to see them on land in local neighborhoods.
