The “Amex Centurion Experience” across all of their domestic USA lounges is basically the same. The only real difference is whether the club has a spa or not. During COVID they have been closed down (well, that is, closed as far as having a therapist to give you a treatment of some kind).
The Mexico City Amex Centurion club in T2 (full review here) has been a bit of an odd duck and I have visited it any number of times flying Delta and AeroMexico. I say “odd duck” because, in the past, you had a different experience depending on which card you held: the consumer/personal The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.
I currently only hold the business flavor of the card and that meant, in the past, I did not get a free meal or free spa time.
When I visited the club in January of this year (2022) I did get a free breakfast and later in the day “snack.” The breakfast was OK but the ham sandwich snack was cold inside and toasted outside – not the best. The spa side of the club only allowed pedicures. Because I hold the The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, I was charged for the treatment. The massage side of the spa remained COVID closed.
But things changed big time when I returned to the Mexico City Centurion Lounge in May: none of the food choices were complimentary. Everything carried a charge. (You can see the full daily menu here on Amex’s website).
That said, the prices are reasonable and the quality was quite good paired with drinks that are still complimentary.
Another big plus: the spa was open again and I was able to get a 15 minute massage free (well, I got two because no one was on the list at all). There is no charge at all as a business Platinum card holder compared to what was before a minimal fee of a few hundred pesos.
From what I have been reading, Amex really wants to harmonize the offerings at all the Centurion clubs worldwide. Given the mess COVID has created I think it will take some time to accomplish. But until then, I am once again impressed with the Mexico City MEX T2 club. – René

Visited in November and December last year with the Platinum charge card. I recall all food choices costing money at that time as well; but the meals were very good. Primarily use this lounge for its shower on a long layover I often have to endure for AeroMexico mileage runs
I was just there in May (T1 pre and post security) and there were still complimentary meals. This included eggs for breakfast and choices like chicken soup, pizza, and I think sandwiches for lunch/dinner. Maybe T2 is different now?
I visited this lounge with my partner at the end of May and was still able to access the free menu. However, this option was not advertised anywhere and I had to specifically ask our server if there was a complementary menu for holders of the personal Platinum card (something I only did after reading a recent review of the lounge). The options are less extensive than the paid menu (think eggs and a fruit platter versus tastier-sounding paid options), although I was able to receive a free latte. Didn’t try the spa as the lounge was full and it seemed like if we left our table, we would lose it. When we arrived, we had to wait outside for 5-10 minutes before one of the attendants could show us to our specified table (similar to visiting a restaurant). Not my favorite lounge visit given how restrictive the experience felt, but it did the trick before our flight back to the US.
Shameless plug… I was at T1 inside security and did a short video about the visit cause I thought it was a weird lounge… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHpajvRyeZA
The Free menu is very hidden, you have to ask, the QR code menu on the table all cost money. However all drinks/alcohols are free except the “green juice”.
If they truly want to “harmonize” the experience, they should make the full menu complimentary. Ridiculous for a “premium” lounge to charge for food, even if they have a limited free menu.
My first and last experience with this lounge was before these latest changes – April 2021. Hour-long wait to get in, dark and dingy inside with incredibly limited seating (yes, even for covid), weren’t offered *anything* complimentary, zero service.
Left and went to the Salon Premier on the other end of the floor. No food but at least the space was bright, open, lots of seating, and I could drink whatever and however much I wanted without worrying about fees…
I’m usually flying Aeromexico first class so I have a choice.food and drinks free but mediocre. Last time I was at American lounge they discontinued US whiskey.
Boo! 🙂
I’m never use amex lounge en mex t1 or t2 because always has long líne of hipsters with an iPhone in one hand and Starbucks coffe in other hand, and need to wait mínimo 30 mins, with priority no línea, free food and free alcohol
