The Hilton Chicago O’Hare has one great feature: you can walk into the airport from the lowest level.
This ideal location is what you are paying for at an average price of around $300 per night or 50,000 Hilton points. For my stay, I chose the latter. I had a very early morning flight and would be back just before midnight the same day. I didn’t want to stress about getting to the airport or to bed after my day’s activities.
As a Hilton Diamond, I was offered in the app a free upgrade to a Junior Suite two days before arrival. While appreciated, why is it that I always get upgrades when I really don’t need one? #FirstWorldProblems 🙂
One thing you notice is that this hotel is dated and very much one, boring, bland, tan color.
The tiny bathroom is right inside the door. And while fully functional, I would not want to share this bathroom. At least there were no wall-mounted soap dispensers that the entire industry seems to be going to.
The junior suite is, as you see, just one large room. While drab, everything was functional.
The sofa was comfortable, the desk space was large and the premium wifi as a Diamond worked fine and was quick. There was a working mini-fridge and unlike so many hotels, I could plug my laptop into the TV’s HDMI port to watch whatever I wanted. That was nice.
The bed was a bit on the firm side for me — and the lounge chair was brutally hard.
The HVAC worked as expected and was not overly loud — even with the fan on the highest setting.
The windows are well insulated as you would expect at an airport location; I was not bothered by the very busy takeoffs and landings being in the middle of the airport. I have to say I was very tempted to try to walk over and get on top of this parking garage just to AVGEEK out over all the jets taking off in front of me.
We should all be aware that during COVID there was a change from providing Diamond “free” breakfast to a daily food and beverage credit. I selected a chocolate cake as room service because I already had dinner. How was it?
Nasty, dry, and chalky.
I really would have liked the old-style full breakfast on the day of my departure. I instead went down to the coffee shop and ordered a sandwich. Was this better than my dessert choice?
If you think this looks awful – you would be right. It was a gross, greasy gut-bomb. I ate a few bites before dumping it into the trash can.
This is what you get as a Hilton Diamond in 2022.
Most disappointing.
Overall, it was an acceptable stay and I was only there for the location but the devaluation of Hilton benefits has me, like with Delta, ending my quest to keep my Diamond status beyond this year as I am simply happier as a free agent and booking accordingly. – Rene
