Stay Overnight in a Jungle-Based 727!
I didn’t even know about this converted 727 in the Costa Rican jungle until I recently stumbled across this video from vloggers Kara and Nate.
According to this Airbnb listing, the plane flew for South Africa Air and Avianca Airlines.
“It actually looks like an airplane has crash-landed in the jungle,” Nate muses when discovering the site. “It also feels like we’ve just walked onto the…set of Lost.”
And the owners put in a lot of work turning the plane into a vacation destination. Check out some of its features:
- Two air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom:
- One with a queen-sized bed
- One with two queen-sized beds
- Hand-carved, teak furniture from Java, Indonesia
- Flat-screen TV
- Kitchenette with microwave
- Dining area foyer
- Ocean-view terrace
- Spiral staircase
- Full access to two family swimming pools at an adjacent resort
- Full access to one pool and sun deck in an adults-only area at an adjacent resort
The lighting sconces are made of old wine and liquor bottles. In place of the aircraft’s wings are decks on either side.
Oh — and you share the outdoor environs with monkeys. Lots of them.
The only thing that kind of skeeves me out is the lack of window shades in the bedroom.
How much does it cost?
Well, you’re definitely going to pay for the privilege of staying in the 727. A night runs for $530. But that doesn’t seem to deter a lot of people — there are plenty of nights already taken this summer.
